This is my first time to build a site using DotNetNuke so I have a few questions. One of the questions that has been nagging me is about image uploading.
In the html text module if I want to add an image to a section I can click on the image upload button and upload that image from my harddrive. However I need to create a thumnail on my computer first. This is cumbersom for my clients. One of the main rules in web design is never take a 200kb + image and scale it down to 100px X 100px. Why would the default module for dotnetnuke not have built in real resizing?
Is there an upgrade to the default upload capabilities to DNN?
I have seen modules that do it but I have current modules installed that would not benifit from a separate module. For example an articles module, in the add new article module you have a text box that if you upload images into it uses the default image upload.
I have not tried using the FCK editor does that in some way address this problem?
Thank you for all your help Lee,
Jeremy Palmer

Hello,
I'm afraid there is not a method for this built-in. I have been recently thinking about how to implement a method for this for web design clients, and I think the solution is to use the following method.
Create a 'web admin' set of pages which only the administrators can view
add an image upload module such as ventrian.com simple gallery module to a page
configure the module to compress the images to the required size
setup any additional pages which contain the image upload module and configure these to have any difference compression / image dimensions that you require
The client then only uses these pages to upload any images they require.
This then prevents users with little web design experience uploading massive images
(I've come across this problem quite a lot and it's something I'm going to experiment with on my next project.)
Thanks,
Lee Sykes

I was hopeing that that would not be your answer...lol...
It is cumbersom to have to uload the images first then create your content. Especially since you have the build in image uploader right there in the text box editor. Are there any plans to add this fuctionality to the core?
Thank you very much.

I have not heard of any plans to add the functionality into the core, it may be worth putting a request in the main DotNetNuke site. (or perhaps the FCK editor project group)
Thanks,
