I don't want to emply that I am going to have trouble setting up an instance of DNN on my home system so that I don't mess up the real one I have on line, but on the first page of the tutorial it says I need something called IIS before I get started. I have never heard of it. I also need a version of SQL...I have heard of that but I don't have it. Is there anywhere to get free versions of these things?

A friend set DNN up for my on-line installation, but he is 12 time zones away (yes! Half a world) and that makes it hard for him to do this one. Besides, a man aught to shoot his own dog when necessary.

IIS stands for Internet Information Services and is only available in Windows XP Professional, it's not available to Windows XP Home. - You install it by going to Control Panel, Add / Remove Programmes / Add Remove Windows Components and then in there you will see Internet information services, tick this box, click on details and tick all of the parts to install of Internet information services.

If you can wait for a few days I have just created video tutorials on how to install DotNetNuke to a barebones installation of Windows.  I walk you through the entire process of which programmes to install, where to download them, how to configure them and so on.  After that I then demonstrate how to install DotNetNuke.
