Hi,
Version 4.4.1.
I have loaded this and can see a performance boost. I was wondering if anyone has played around with the host settings, and can recommend the best setting for performance.
I have already removed all unwanted modules and deactivated friendly urls (read to do that somewhere).
Thanks for any suggestions.
PS Please feel free to include any IIs setting ideas as well , running Server 2000.

Hello markup
You might try, using shorthand css files, css skins and containers and reducing image file sizes. Keep your site alive, you might try host tracker or similar.

Hi Mark,
Also, John Mitchel made a post in his blog regarding the performance settings:
http://blogs.snapsis.com/PermaLink,...a8ef0.aspx
I would be interested to hear where you heard to deactivate friendly URLS, they are useful for search engine promotion. - I would use friendly URLs for the potential of better search results even if there is a slight performance hit.

Friendly URL’s
DNN and CATALooK.netStore need 10 times longer to process Friendly URL’s than standard URL’s.
Here you can disable this feature: ‘Host’ -> ‘Host Settings’ -> ‘Advanced Settings’ -> ‘Use Friendly URL’s?’
I found it , it is in my catalook admin manual.
Other suggestions.
DotNetNuke Version - DNN4 will run faster as DNN3. (not sure what is meant by this)
Compression and Whitespace Filter - turn on the Compression and Whitespace filter options
Ensure that DNN does not run in debug mode :

Ah right, it's just for the CATALook module then - that's a pity as it has the potential to affect your search engine results.
DotNetNuke version, basically they are saying to upgrade to the latest version of DotNetNuke because DNN 4 runs quicker than DNN 3.
Compresssion and white space filter, read the comments on John Mitchells blog. Personally I'm not 100% convinced that the compression and filter settings are completely bug free yet, so I would make sure that you test everything after applying the compression and filter settings. (You may find some modules do not react very well to it while others are okay)
Thanks,

I have been successfully running the compression on my DNN 4.1 install for about 5 weeks now and have not encountered ANY issues (and have gained very considerable performacne gains for my users). I am in a shared hosting environement, and the only 3rd party module I am running is Active Forums. The settings that work for me are the following:
(Logged in as 'host' I do the following)
Within 'Host Settings' navigate to 'Advanced settings' / 'Performance settings'
There I have selected the following options:
-> Page State Persistence: Selected "Page"
-> Module Caching Method: Selected "Disk"
-> Performance Setting: Selected "Moderate Caching"
-> Authenticated Cacheability: Selected "ServerAndNoCache"
-> Compression Setting: Selected "Deflate Compression"
-> Compression Level (Deflate): Seleceted "2"
-> Use White Space filter: NOT selected
This has been working perfectly for me now for over a month.

Likely not a whole lot of changes. DotNetNuke itself has gotten better. I always check Mitchel Sellers blog (mitchelsellers.com) for performance issues.

Hey Guys,
I have been trying to get my website performance to come close to other CMS systems but to no avail. I added all cache settings as suggested, added a check on Pingdom like every minute and finally added Pageblaster but the performance still pretty much, well, sucks. Is it possible to do a magazine issue on this topic sometime, I am about ready to switch (back) to Joomla.... Aad

Have you used a tool like Yslow to see what's going on with your pages? How big are the pages?
You don't need to hit your site every minute to keep it loaded. Once every 10 minutes or so should be more than sufficient, assuming that your host has configured IIS to time out after 10 minutes.
Also, it would help to know some of the details of your server and SQL server. Are you in a shared hosting environment?
If you'd like to post a URL, I'd be happy to look.
