I've restyled the input of the search core module. The Results page is not styled the way I need. I dont want the menu to show and it looks like the core search module uses default skin. Is there something I need to register in my new skin. I noticed that there are 2 modules in the results search page. Is there something I need to do in my newly created skin to make the search results work? |

I was able to figure this one. I had to change my contentPane name to "ContentPane". I had "mainContentPane". The only thing I may need help now is with changing the format of the results. Any help on that would be great. I'm going to go ahead and do a little more research myself. |

format of the results? If you have a screenshot of what you're trying to accomplish that would better help us understand what you're trying to achieve... |

Another thing I did that may have helped was to add a logon input on the same page as my results page. I noticed in the results that it has retrieved css code. It looks like the search results is pulling css code inside the html module. The css code makes no reference to the actual input text so I don't understand why it would use the text. The css styling is encaspulate in the style tag. Is there anything I can do besides remove the styling? I'll go ahead and see if I can move the styling somewhere else. |

I was able to remove the css from the search results by placing the css at the bottom of the html module instead of the top. Maybe this info will be useful to someone. The format maybe ok for now. I'm going to wait and see if there is a requirement for it. If there is some generic information on the formatting that would be nice. I'm going to wait and see what my requirements are before I am able to specify any details on the formatting. Hopefully the current formatting will pass the test.

Dan, to note that generally inline css that you've just described is typically bad practice. I do, however, understand that some DNN modules are some what cumbersome/stubborn and inline css is necessary. I would take a closer look to see if you couldn't place those styles in your portal.css file. This would make styling further down the much simpler and easier to access for someone other than yourself. |

These styles are little more like a hybrid. It's not really inline. I used style tags inside the html module. The styling is specific to that very html module and I thought it would be easier to locate the styles to that particular html module if I placed it in the particular html module that needed it. That was my logic anyway. |

This has me confused, too. Are you talking about the Search Skin object, or the Search Results ... or both? I have (often) used the Header and Footer of a module to insert styles and scripts. Yes, this is the quick and dirty approach, but it can also be effective. For styles, it's best to use portals.css, the stylesheet you can access from Admin, Site Settings. |

oh, the styles for the html modules are being picked up by the search results when I have them at the top of the html module. It seems the search module is picking up on the first sentence or so. Moving the style tag to the bottom of the html module solved my problem. Is there anyway to get the search results to pick up on the keyed-in word. It seems like the search results give a sample of the text, but sometimes the actual word being searched is not in the sentence. Also, is there anyway to reduce how much is sampled in the displayed list? |

Go to the Search Results page and open the module settings for the Search Results module. You have these settings that you can adjust: Maximum Search Results Results per Page Maximum Title Length Maximum Description Length Show Description? (a check box) We also have some video tutorials on configuring search. While a few years old, the tutorials are sill mostly correct. |

Thanks! I know this module does a lot for a free module, but can it highlight the words when you open the page. This is probably more than I need, I just want to be prepared just in case I am asked the question. Thanks. |
