Hi, I am pretty new to DNN


Iam aiming to upgrade my dnn site from : 04.09.04 --> 06.01.03.
To avoid the big upgrade jump I closely followed the instructions provided in one your tutorial(Automerge) to upgrade (04.09.04
to 05.04.04)however I have encountered some problems.

Here are my questions:
1)Is error above anything to do version?
2) If not, Can I directly follow the instructions to upgrade from v4 to 6 or do I need to follow a specific DNN upgrade paths i.e. versions I must apply incrementally to achieve the desired version level.?
3)I use xp on my local pc, do I need to reset permission for NETWORK service account or just the ASPNET.

I would appreciate if you can shed some light to my predicament.

With regard to no 2, there is a suggested upgrade path here http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources..._Path.aspx which would suggest upgrading 4.9.4 to 4.9.5 first, then to 5.4.4. However, that doesn't guarantee you won't encounter problems.

Not sure what Automerge is or whether it is applicable anymore, I've only ever overwritten the files. Maybe Joe can shed some light.

I have just gone through a 4.9.4 to 6.1.5 upgrade. I tried to follow the suggested upgrade path, but also had to make some adjustments.

I first went to 4.9.5 then tried to go directly to 5.4.4. There were some errors, so I went back to 4.9.5, did some incremental upgrades into the 5.0.x series, and eventually got to 5.4.4. From there the going was easier.

The "auto merge" has existed since, I think, 4.6.2. Basically, this means that you should not have to manually edit web.config before doing an upgrade.

I believe that your particular error is one that happens when you have the XML module installed. If you google around you will find other comments about fixing this. As I recall, you need to edit that file and replace "Web.HttpResponse" with "System.Web.HttpResponse." I think that there are two places. This can also be fixed if you upgrade the XML module prior to doing the DotNetNuke upgrade that causes the error.
