DNN comes with a site search facility, basic I know.

But my question is: Is there a way to find out what terms were searched for (on-site)?

If they are not stored somewhere does any one know of a module that handles this type of search well

Alternatively, does the data actually show in Google Analytics "site search" and presently I have none?

I'm not aware of anything that can report on search terms.

The Pro Edition of DotNetNuke has a much more powerful search provider than the Community Edition, but I don't know if that keeps a record of searches.

There are other search providers available at the DotNetNuke Store (formerly Snowcovered).

There may be a way to attach GA to the search links, but I don't know if that would keep a record of search terms.

You might want to create a custom search provider, modified from the standard one, to store the data that you seek. It would also be up to you to analyze that data.

I think you have confirmed my suspicion.

I’m not expecting a large number of searches on the site, and it might be that GA will report against the searchresults.aspx with the extension of the terms.

I’ll have a closer look at the Search Modules – maybe their descriptions are not very good, I got the impression they were Google like, but if they are actually mimicing a Google search with “Site Search” then I’m in business.

I will hope it is a case of changing the ASCX files to use the different search provider from the default or the modules will intercept it.

When I get the answer I will publish it to this forum.

Feedback as promised

Confirmation of my expectations.

Google Analytics does not report the search terms in the Site Search.

However it does report if you go to Content --> Site Content --> Pages and enter searchresult into the advanced search box.

It does it in the format .aspx?Search=My+Search+Term

Therefore the on-site searches can be reviewed and acted upon
