I have another question for ya

I've got my fancy new DDR menu up and running smoothly, using the superfish template.

Due to the particular nature of my site (e-commerce for musical instruments), I am in need of using the XML import option for the DDR menu - to batch import my menu page structure.

I copied and pasted the initial code from the DNNGarden website here into my own xml file.

I updated my home.ascx file to find the file, and it successfully updates my DDR menu.

However, once I tried edit that file and set up my own menu structure, I found myself at a complete loss. I first thought that by wrapping a node inside of a parent node, that it would automatically display as a child page. That assumption was apparently wrong I then thought that the number of the node ID would specify it's placement. That was wrong as well. I then tried various combinations of changing the values of the "first" and "last" parameters. No luck.

It would seem that I either do not understand how the node id effects its placement in the menu, I do not understand how the variables such as "first", "last", and "depth" function, or I'm just completely blind.

I've scoured the web, but I have yet to find anything that would explain to me how this works. Do you know of any reference that I can use to code this file?

Have you seen the DotNetNuke Wiki and the pages about the DDR Menu? If what you need isn't there, then I would direct you to DNNGarden.com.

Besides Mark, the reigning expert on the DDD Menu is Armand Datema (@nokiko on Twitter and the owner of 2dnn.com). If you can get his attention, then you get some really great help. Or, if your budget permits, throw some work his way!

(obviously, your questions far exceed my experience with DDR Menu. I have done a bit of work with styling and some minor modifications to the furnished templates, but have not gotten near customizing the Mega template.)

Regarding the file that you copied and pasted: I think that you misunderstood what that is.

The way that DDR Menu works is the it produces an XML "file" that is then processed through an XSLT file. The output of that is the HTML that forms the static part of the menu. The page that you referenced is an example, but yours will be different because of the unique page structure of your site. (If you want to see the XML that your site generates, use the DumpXML template.)

The other part of a menu template is CSS and jQuery. The CSS is there to style the HTML, and the jQuery is there to add other behaviors such as the flyouts or the mega structure.

Note that XLT is not the only approach you can take. There is also an option to use a Razor script instead of XSLT.
