I followed this video series from Video 1 thru 3 step by step and doing exactly as the video instructed. I copied the PSDTutorial skin folder into the portal\default\skins folder of DNN6 installation as suggested by the Video. I modified the Home.ascx file and the skin.css file exactly as instructed. But when I added a test page and tried to apply the new skin, the skin does not show up in the dropdown list of skins in the pagesetup\Advanced\Appearance\ Page Skin component. Am I missing some step that is not mentioned on the video. On the video I can clearly see that the PSDTutorial Home skin does show in the dropdown. Somebody please help.
Babu.

First, if you added the skin to the _default/Skins folder, make sure you check the Host button for skins. Othewise, check Portal.
Also, make sure that Home.ascx is in the _default/Skins/PSDTutorial folder(or the Portals/N/Skins/PSDTutorial folder if this is a Portal skin).
The most common error is to put the skin files on layer deeper in the folder structure than it they should be.

Thank you for a quick response Andy. When you say "make sure you check the Host button for skins. Othewise, check Portal", I have no clue what you are talking about. I opened the main dnn site folder as a website under VS 2010 as the tutorial suggested. Then copied the PSDTutorial skin folder into the portal\default\skins, opened the ascx file in VS 2010, edited it as instructed by the Video and saved it in VS 2010. I have not done any kind of skin installation procedure. So, where is this Host button or the Portal button. I can't figure it out.
On another note, I have red squiggly lines under the registered tag "dnn" in my ascx file. This ascx file came with the tutorial. It is not my creation. It looks like VS cannot resolve the dotnetnuke assemblies or something.
Also, when I added "div" tags with runat attribute to the ascx file just as the video suggested, I also get this red squiggly lines under the "div" tag. If I remove the runat attribute, the red squiggly line goes away. What gives? I appreciate your help.
Babu.

The buttons are on the Page Settings page where you assign a skin to a page (or assign the default skin for a portal or for an installation).
If you copied the PSDTutorial directory to _default/Skins, then you should have a file called _default/skins/PSDTutorial/Home.ascx. Is that correct? If so, I'm confused why you don't see this in the skin dropdown. I would suggest clearing the application cache and recycling the application pool from the Tools menu.
Oh, and my apologies for the confusion about the Host and Portal radio buttons. They don't exist in 6.x and I had forgotten that.

The "red sqiggly lines" are Visual Studio's indication that it doesn't know what those items are. You can (I think) ignore them.

Thanks Andy. I think it was my fault. I must have done something to screw up the skin. When I deleted the skin, re copied fresh from the tutorial folder, it showed up in the dropdown alright. So, I guess, I must have screwed it up somewhere.
I really like the fast response time from DNNCreative.
Babu.
