I’m interested to know more about DotNetNuke.

Does DotNetNuke allows itself (CMS) to be decoupled ?
Meaning that I can have the CMS to be install on a server, and the contents it manages installed on another web server?

Please advise.

I think that the answer is both yes and no.

A DotNetNuke installation consists of a web directory and a MS SQL database. The database is mostly code and the database is the content. The web directory and the MS SQL server can reside on different machines.

The complication arises because some data is stored in the web directory. Most commonly documents and images are stored in the web directory. So, in that case the answer is not quite no.

More recent versions of DotNetNuke also allow things like images and documents to be be stored outside of the web directory. For example, you can host much of the content that would normally be stored in the web directory to be stored on Amazon S3 or other cloud services.

So, again, the answer is mostly yes, but can be a bit complicated.
