Hello there,
Hello I have a question in regards to dealing with overlays introduced since DNN 6. I know since this version came out two new modules classes were added to the default.css file which have an effect on the stacking order of modules in relation to the manage overlay when in admin and so forth.
I have been playing with the .CnnModule class as well as the dnnActionMenu class. I haven't yet played with the actionMenuBorder or actionMenuBody class yet but what is going on is that I have an html module that layers over another third party module. Basically the html module layers over the background of a third party module and this "seems" to be working ok until you hover over the manage button for any module even close to this overlay.
What happens is when you get the lightbox of choices (i.e. settings, move to new pane, delete, etc..) letting you effect that module the html module that I had to tweak the z-index for actually goes over this lightbox with administrative options on the module. What happens is if I get to close to thie html module when trying to click on an item in this light box to effect my module is that the "action window" loses focus and than disappears.
Another thing that happens is that I have a module inside a module using a third party module called live tabs. Anyesy it has been updated to the venders latest version which supports DNN 6 but what happens is I get two manage overlays in which one manage button almost hides another manage button as the top manage button covers up about 50% of the lower manage button which corresponds to the nested module.
What I have tried was to tweak the DnnModule and DnnActionMenu classes. Removing the z-index apptribute in this file is what made the html module go over top the background of the outter module even when hovering over it which is a good thing.
The bad thing is that when I hover over the manage button to a module to the left these html items go over top the light box action menu but than when I add back in this z-index at make it something like 1000 than the action menu covers the html module but the html module than hides under the background of the live tabs module.
So what I have here is the ability to correctly effect the stacking order of two elements but since this has to do with the action menu interacting with the html module which than has to react to the background of this other module it doesn't mesh to well.
I have tweaked the css files responsible for the modules in question and no matter how I cut and dice it I cannot seem to get the html module to layer over the live tabs module and the action menu to layer over everything.
Again if I hover over the manage button that is ontop of my background image and try to go down to select some option it disappeears since it hides over the transparent border of the lower manage button and the other thing is this scenario I am talking about is that I get the overlay but no items "appear to be in it" within the module that is half covering another module and the lower manage button that goes with the nested module produces no lightbox that can be seen at least. Perhaps it is poping up underneath the top module I don't know.
Point is what it seems to boil down to is some kind of stacking order that I cannot put my finger on.
Before DNN 6 my site had no problems as the manage capability were not overlays with transparent or semi transparent borders to them which if a module option drops under this semi transparent moduele border causes a loss of focus and hence the properties to disappeear all together.
Just wondering if you can shed some light on this issue. I noticed there were more definitions under the "MODULE ACTIONS" area of the default.css file but as I mention I only explored three of the classes and no more.
I am wondering if fiddling with some other class with in this section besides the three I have already messed with is where my answer lies.
Anyway if you could weigh in on this Joe or anyone else who has insights on how to best handle these css styles and how to handle issues with action menus going underneath other semi transparent menu areas in admin mode and modules showing over the lightbox action menu making it impossible to work on some modules do to the overlay issue of a near by module this would greatly help in making admin much easier and doable especially for those who aren't as good with computers as we are (i.e. folk who really need to administer a sight but have desktop applications as their main background)
Thanks,
Bo

You might want to check with the developer of the third-party module. Perhaps they have figured out how to make their module play nice with DotNetNuke 6. From your description, it seems that the problem is related to that module. It could be the z-index issue caused by the new UI in DotNetNuke 6.

I changed this line in default.css:
.DnnModule{z-index:902;position:relative; zoom:1; /*Entropy skin IE7*/ }
To:
.DnnModule{z-index:902;position:relative; /*Entropy skin IE7*/ }
and that fixed the problem.
