I am trying to upgrade my dnn from 5.4.1, I tried to upgrade to 5.4.4 and 5.5.1. Once I try to upgrade the installation wizard does not run. So usually it shows if things have been sucessful of failed. That does not run at all, it just thinks and then times out. If i try to go back to the homepage after this, it just takes me back to the installation page. Please let me know if you need anyother information on this. Thank you, |

Can you describe the steps that you've taken to do the upgrade? Are you doing this on a live site or (hopefully) on a copy of the site? |

I am doing it on a live site, but taking a backup each time i upgrade. I have backed up the site and then just copied the upgrade files into my root directory of my website. We started out with an even older version of DNN and i was able to upgrade, going version by version. Until I got to 5.4.1 and now it doesnt seem to be working at all for any older versions. |

I'm not opposed to having to do this manually if need be. Do you guys have a tutorial for that? I see you have one for versions 4. something and below but I couldn't find anything for 5. |

You need to figure out why the upgrade wizard is not running? What exactly happens when you browse to the site after copying the upgrade files? What page do you see? |

Well the upgrade wizard starts, but then it just hangs. See this image http://i.imgur.com/UrfEE.png . It never goes anywhere beyond that. |

For "fun" can you try upgrading 5.4.1 to 5.4.4 and see if that works? If it does, see if you can then get to 5.5.1. |

I had that idea already. I can't even go from 5.4.1 to 5.4.2 |

When you are unzipping the upgrade package to the web directory, do you first check and "unblock" the zip file. Sometimes this can prevent some important files from being extracted. Here's what else I would do: 1. Uninstall any unused modules. 2. Delete data from the Event Log and Site Log table. 3. Empty the Recycle Bin 4. Do some database maintenance to make sure that there is free space in the database ("Shrink" the database.) 5. Double-check (ok, triple check)that your web directory file permissions are correct. 6. Repeat #5. Now, try the upgrade again.

I will try that. I actually went back to my original 5.1 install and upgraded to 5.3 thinking maybe the 5.4 upgrade was wrong or something. From 5.3 I tried to jump to 5.5 and it did the same thing. I'll try what you suggest and see if I have any better luck. |

Last week I upgraded a site from 4.9.1 to 4.9.5 and then to 5.6.2! You may want to try 5.1 to 5.6.2 or 5.6.3 directly. |

I've tried going straight to 5.6 on a lot of other websites, doesn't ever seem to work for me. I've done about 4 upgrades from 4.9-5.3 to 6 and it's been a nightmare. It doesn't help most of our sites have a few various third party modules installed. Needless to say, this hasn't been the best past couple weeks for me. We had server issues this morning. I'm just now getting to what you suggested. I'll let you know how it goes. |

Ok, so that didn't work. I uninstalled all the modules we weren't using. Set the permissions to EVERYONE full temporarily, truncated the eventlog and sitelog tables, shrunk the files, and made sure the growth was set to auto still the same issue. Any ideas? |

I went back in and went back to 5.1. Threw the 5.6 upgrade in there and it still gives me the same issue. Seems anytime I put anything in after 5.4.1 we get this issue. Any ideas? I'm completely out of things to try. |

we have form and list 5.0.2 installed. Is there a way for me to see what pages it's on? This site is big and I don't even know if it's used at all. |

Which version are you at? Does everything work? For the upgrade to 5.4.1 -- did everything work after that upgrade?

Go the the Module Definitions or Extensions page -- I'm forgetting at which point that changed. When you look at or edit a module, is there a link that shows on which pages it is being used? If you have a Dashboard, there might be something there. Otherwise you'll need some SQL to do it. Since this feature exists in more current version of DotNetNuke, you can probably find a sql stored procedure in one of those, copy it, and use it in the Host, SQL page. |

I didn't have any of those options and I didn't feel like trying to track down that SP so I just uninstalled the module. I figured I could re-install it if need be. However, that didn't fix my issue. I really have no other ideas on what to try. |

Is there any way to manually upgrade dnn? I.e. running the sql scripts and then moving all of the files? |
