Hi,
I was wondering why are there so many Videos on setting up a DNN locally and so few if any on setting dnn up on a hosting provider.

I haven't been able to find any on setting up on a hosting provider. I have downloaded the newest community editon and uploaded it to my httpdocs folder but dont know which file to manipulate for the database information.

Any help or link to point me in the direction of a tutorial or literature would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully, you are using a hosting provider who supports DotNetNuke. If you are, your host should be able to provide you with instructions for installing DotNetNuke on their servers or even do it for you. One good reason that there aren't instructions here for doing so is that most hosting providers have their own setups and may have special requirements for installation.

That said, though, the basic procedures are the same:

- First, you need to have your website created and provisioned via IIS.
- Next you need to know the credentials for the SQL Server.
- Then, you need to copy ALL of the installation package to your web directory, assuming that this has been set by your host.

After that, just browse to your website. The DotNetNuke installation wizard should start up and prompt you for the necessary information. DO NOT edit web.config or do anything else. The installation wizard will take care of that for you, based on the inputs you give it.

Of course, if your host has instructions that are different ... FOLLOW THEIR INSTRUCTIONS.

And, a good hosting provider will help you through this process if you get stuck. If they don't ... then you don't have a good hosting provider.

Thanks for once again responding to one of my post, I am trying AMHOSTING.com out and after contacting them about installing DNN to their server the response I got was that they only deal with server side issues.


So I would need to install it via IIS Could I use Webmatrix? Also Would I need to get with them to have them set permissions with modify / create for my database user ?

I hope that someone from AMHosting is listening and will respond. Installation of DotNetNuke is a server-side issue. Do they provide any information regarding DotNetNuke installation?

Their website is lacking on any CMS installation information Joe.

You mentioned IIS setup, should I just follow http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Resources...tNuke.aspx which goes through an IIS local installation ?

I have never set up using IIS, I have only done a local install using Microsoft's Webmatrix. Have you tried setting up a website via webmatrix if so what experiences have you had with it?

Wanted to give you an update about the situation they do have support for dnn, your ticket just needs to be escalated to a level two technician. The technician that has picked up my ticket has been very helpfull.

I actually have a website hosted with powerdnn, although i was looking for a new home that might be a little cheaper per month. I can't argue with you there they have very good support.
