Is it possible to create a menu item without a link or page?  In other words, I want to show a menu item that expands a secondary set of menu items, but has no page associated with itself and does nothing when clicked.

Yes there is.  In the Page Settings, in the Advanced settings, there is a checkbox labeled 'Disabled'.  By checking this, the page can be included in the menu, but can't be clicked on.  I use it for all the root menus of menu items.

Help this helps.  And I know people hate to hear this stuff, but this is documented.  You should really (if you haven't yet) read the docs that come w/DNN (I've read them at least 3 or 4 times, since it's easy to miss little things like this).  I know some of them are overly technical for some users, but this particular subject is well written.

I actually found this technique out as well after I posted.  It works well.  Unfortunately, the labeling on the option page doesn't make it clear.

... don't have time to read the manual 3-4 times.  Forums are efficient ways to get quick answers.  I think it is unwise to berate someone for asking a question.  If the answer exists, just point to the answer.  Takes more words to get on someone's case and dispels the notion of community.  Either assist others or get out.

I really didn't mean to berate you...I hope you didn't take it this way. I've gone through all the frustrations you are going though...so I do understand the deficiencies of open-source docs. I just meant it as a reminder, 'tis all. Just tryin' to help...
