i am really new to DNN. i am creating a webpage that need to dispaly a result calculated from SQL data. If i am using .net, i can just get the data using sql staement and after i do the calculation, i can dispaly the result in a text box or a lable. how can i do the same thing in DNN?

There are several choices, depending on how you want that to display on the page.

The Reports Module will run a query and generate a report. You have all sorts of options for styling the result.

You might want to use SGSV from Tressleworks.ca. It is similar to the reports module. I think it has more flexibility and options without getting into visualizers.

You might also want to take a look at the RazorHost module. You can essentially generate the code for a large chunk of HTML with it and insert the result of your SQL query right where you want it. This requires a bit of programming skill, but very little knowlege of the innards of DotNetNuke is required.

i don't need a grid or form to show all the data. All i need just be able to run sql and using the data to do calculation and display the result in a lable or text box.
I also checked the RazorHost module but it required .net framwork 4.0 which i am not ready to upgrade to it, yet.

Some of the forms modules can populate form feilds based on a SQL query. Try Dynamic Forms or Form Master. You might also be able to use the Form and List module. Don't forget my suggestion of SGSV.
