Would it be possible to create a stored procedure that executes an EXE on my host system?

Recently I installed Onyaktech Host Commander that allows me to execute SQL stored procedures easily. This was probably already possible through the Host > SQL menu, however this module intimidated me a bit as a SQL novice.

Currently I have an AutoIT3 script I use to backup a portal easily (basically it just zips the whole DNN file folder and creates an SQL file that is being run afterwards, it's content deriving from a scripted manually initiated Full-copy only backup in SQL Server Management Studio). So I run the EXE and it backs up the configured portal.

Now I have to create a VPN connection to the host and login using remote desktop to start BackupScript.EXE. Would it be possible to run the EXE from the portal?

I figured the easies way to go is to create a SQL stored procedure that executes the EXE, however I don't know that much about SQL. I could execute this procedure easily using Onyaktech's Host Commander. This would allow employees to create backups of portals easily before they do any modifications, without having to login over VPN/RDP.

Question 1 - Would it be possible to run an EXE on the host from within the portal? (Since this could impose security issues).
Question 2 - Would SQL Stored procedure be the way to go and if yes, how do I create and configure this stored procedure?
Question 3 - Would another approach be more suitable?

You can create a stored procedure using SQL Server Management Studio.

If you have the code to create the stored procedure, you can also do it from the Host, SQL tab.

1. If you can run the stored procedure from SQL Server Management Studio using the same credentials you use in your DotNetNuke connection string, then it should work.
