Does anyone have a way to upload just the .ascx file without having access to FTP or anything like that? I have access to the Hosting environment and have modified a .ascx file for the skin. I need to be able to upload that, but I don't have the skin.xml file. Is there an easier way to get this skin uploaded than going through the process of skin creation? Thanks, |

I don't have a good way to do this if you can't get access to files. You could edit the skin and Create a Package, but you'll still need to get able to get the the Install/Skins folder to download the zip file. Then you can replace the ascx file and reload the skin. Of course, if you could do that, you probably could just replace that file directly. |

OK, this is weird. I clearly have skin files located in the portals/default/skins folder. However, when I go to try to create a package in the Host/Extensions, when I scroll down to the Skins area, it doesn't show the skins? Am I doing something wrong? |

The skin package is created in the Install/Skin folder. |

sorry. I think I've missed something. I'm on my portal. I want to create a skin package from an existing skin that's on the portal. I thought what I needed to do was go to the Host/Extensions page. scroll down to Skins and then edit the Skin and create a package there. Am I doing things wrong? |

You are doing nothing wrong. When you create the package, though, the file is placed in the Install/Skin directory. I don't belive that you have any control over the location. |

OK, I'm now even more confused than I thought was possible. So, I can first create the extension, which is nothing more than my name, the version, etc., with NO files that I select. Once that extension is created, it is placed in the Install/skin folder? OK, so how do I then get my .ascx files and my .css files into there, and then what do I do from there to get that lovely zip folder that I can upload onto my production site? I know I'm asking a lot but for a noob like me, this isn't making sense. |

How about this? If I just right click on the folder where I've created the skins and Send To zip. Will it work if I upload it in 5.6? Or do I need to do something funky to kake it work? |

So the original questions was about uploading an ascx file. What kind of access do you have to the web directory? |

I'm currently working on a standalone box where I have access to everything. I copied the original set of skins into another folder of the same name, but I appended the number 2 to it to separate it. I want to create a zip file of these modified skin files to upload to my production server. What is the best way to do this? |

If you will have access to the web directory on the production server, the easiest thing to do is simply copy the folder up to the production server. If you do no have access to the web directory, you will need to install the skin. If you are using the ascx form of skinning, you will not need an XML file, but just the zip file that contains all of your skin's files and at the top level. When you go to install the skin, you will get something that looks like an error message from DotNetNuke because the is the V4 format for skins. Just choose the skin option and things should proceed. |
