In any module using RTE such as HTMl or FAQs their are no icons showing just a blank blue area where the icons would normally be.

I have reinstalled DNN 5.6.1 but the error persists

Solved in that it was not a DNN issue but a browser one.
IE9 does not show the RTE properly but Chrome and Safari do

Has somebody told Microsoft about this as it is a major pain, I too confronted the issue on site training the other day, and it really is quite frustrating that here we are using a CMS with lots of Microsoft about it, and the most compliment browser that Microsoft have managed delivered compels ordinary folk trying to run a business to have to remember to use a different browser if they wnat to update their website.

OK: I answered by own question. A search of the MS site revealed the answer. In msie9 under the page menu is a compatibility view. If you turn this on it does actually resolve the issue. Like most people I know I don't use msie much, except to check that it is resolving pages correctly, so typically I wouldn't look at compatibility as a good solution for a page that resolves badly, however to use the editor it is probably ok.

The other four browsers I use and test for don't have the same issue. (chrome, firefox, safari, opera)

I guess the question that is yet to be answered is if the problem rests with the rte or with ie9. Microsoft certainly seems to suggests the problem lies with the rte. I was going to past the link, but I can't re-find it.
