I followed the instructions on this page:

and tried to set a default skin for my portal, but I couldn't find the "Apply to" checkboxes for Portal or Admin, so I applied for the whole site including the admin pages.
Now when I go to edit content the editor is using my site's skin and it has a background, also the column is too narrow in the middle, because my site is using 3 column layout.
I am using DotNetNuke 5.6.1 and I believe it doesn't have the "Apply to" option anymore.
I also tried another suggestion to set the skin for the main Admin page and use "Copy design to descendants" to copy to all other admin pages. It didn't work, all other admin pages still have the old skin.
Is there a way in DotNetNuke to fix this, either by using some settings or using SQL commands? I could still set the skin that I want for the admin pages, for the whole site, and then I would just need to set the skin for my pages excluding the admin pages, but I don't know if there is a way to exclude the admin pages.

I found a way in the meantime using SQL, but still having problemssetting a default skin.
If I am right, this SQL query shows all the Admin pages:
select * from dbo.Tabs
where ParentId = (select TabID from dbo.Tabs
where TabName = 'Admin')

and this SQL query shows all Host pages:
select * from dbo.Tabs
where ParentId = (select TabID from dbo.Tabs
where TabName = 'Host')

This is a SQL command to update the skin of all pages except the Host and Admin pages:
Update dbo.Tabs
set SkinSrc = '[G]Skins/MenuBox/MenuBox3.ascx'
where ParentId NOT IN ((select TabID from dbo.Tabs
where TabName = 'Admin'), (select TabID from dbo.Tabs
where TabName = 'Host'))

These are all the Host and Admin pages:
select * from dbo.Tabs
where ParentId IN ((select TabID from dbo.Tabs
where TabName = 'Admin'), (select TabID from dbo.Tabs
where TabName = 'Host'))

and I found that all have SkinSrc = NULL

I found that there is another table called PortalSettings
(select * from dbo.PortalSettings)
and I have set the default portal skin:
Update dbo.PortalSettings
set SettingValue = '[G]Skins/MenuBox/MenuBox3.ascx'
where SettingName = 'DefaultPortalSkin'

Now when I create a new page, it gets the default portal skin, but the problem is that the Admin and Host pages are using that skin too.
Do I need to assign a value for the SkinSrc for the Admin and Host pages instead of leaving them NULL?
I would like to know what is the best way of doing this, probably should be a way without using SQL.

Unless I'm misreading your problem, you go to Admin > Site Settings, expand Appearance, where you can set the portal skin and the admin skin. Hopethat helps!

If you set a default skin, it will be applied to all pages automatically to pages that don't otherwise have a skin specified.

If you want all of the admin pages to have a different skin, specify that skin for the Admin page, and then use the link under Page Settings for the Admin page to copy that to all of the Admin children.

So I guess you need to apply for admin pages and host pages separately, right?

What about this approach, is it correct?:
- Set a skin for admin page and copy for all descendants
- Set a skin for host page and copy for all descendants
- Leave the skin for all other pages as portal default (NULL in the database)
- Set Portal Skin under Admin/Site Settings to the skin used for the website - so this way all new pages created will have a NULL value for skin and the default skin will apply, without the need to always go under page settings and specify a skin after creating a new page
(for admin and host pages I used "MinimalExtropy - index" skin, because it comes with DotNetNuke, I guess that is the default after installation)

Is it a good idea to do this way?
