Hello Lee and Joe, I went through your DNN NAV tutorial that you first put out in August 2009 to try to glean something in regards to the use of a div structure (i.e. non table) structure for this particular provider but couldn't seem to have no success even after using stuff like customattributes to declear my DNN menu as an unordered list it still seemed to utilize a tabular structure. I also went to the web development toolbar in firefox and found every css file and stripped all the contents out of it to give me the barebones data and than started shrinking my webpage and still I noticed a tabular structure to this DNN navigator. The reason I know this is because when I started shrinking the width of my site instead of the menu items just disappearing as other items of my page were doing (i.e. not being pushed to the next row) the menu items were actually being shoved to the next line if they couldn't fit on the line provided for them. I noticed the same is true with the way your horizontal menu works on this DNN Creative Magazine site. I was wondering if you had any insight on how I could use a non tabular menu system. I noticed that my older website that I had created for a client does not behave in this manner in regards to shoving menu items that do not fit in a resized window width to the next line making it athetically unacceptable when this happens. This older website is based on the SolPartMenu which I know is obsolete now and not being supported anymore besides it being non standard and more bloat to it or bulky so I would perfer to use this DNN NAV for my provider since it is the replacement for the SolPartMenu but am having real problems with not being able to generate the div structure within this menu. My whole skin only uses Div tags and granted I do have modules on my site that still are using the tabular like structure which goes into panes in my site based on Div tags but I would like it if a resized window of the website would not push menu items down to the next line since no other objects on this website get pushed down upon shrinking the window. For one client I had purchased a skin from snowcovered called transparent2 which uses their own custom DNN menu provider called cybermenu (maybe similiar to houseofnuke) but I am not sure what attributes accompany this menu provider as I am sure not as many nifty things as can be found in the dnn navigator that replaced the solpartmenu. I guess what I am looking for is a solution that gives me pretty much the flexibility of the DNN Nav menu without the table structure that causes menu items to drop to the next line when you resize the page such that some menu items would not normally be visable if it wasn't dropped to the next line. It seems to me no matter what I try with this DNN Navigator I can't get the structural feel I want in regards to what happens athetically to my menu when the page is resized or perhaps would also occur on mobile devices that can's support as much width. If need be I wouldn't mind turning on a css attribute like overflow auto to allow for a horizontal scroll bar if a window size does not fit all the menu items and looses the horizontal scroll bar if it does but to have it just be pushed on to the line below is not acceptable to me. Are you guys aware of any other menu providers that are free of charge or perhaps for a charge on snowcovered or some other site that has quite a bit of the same functionality as the core dnn navigational menu provider but is not based on the table structure. Attributes I would like to see in my menu provider would be things such as Indicate children, seperator, Level, Orientation (i.e. vertical or horizontal) I don't know if the start tab thing is really that critical for me but certainly some of those other fundamentals are. On another note I noticed Lee that in your tutorial when you started typing an attribute within the DNN NAV tag or any other tag for that matter you got the intellisense of your visual basic studio to give you hints of what attributes were available for that tag. I own visual web development 2008 professional (I know I need to get 2010 now) but the intellisense does not seem to be working in my case. Could it be possible that this is do to the fact that when I click on file>open>web site that I open just a folder with my skin files I threw into it via my ftp server. Would I be able to utlize the power of visual web developers intellisense if I were to open the web site from the root of my DNN installation file hirachy rather than opening some stray folder that has within it all my skins and associated files. Thanks a bunch for any help you guys could provide in regards to a good navigational solution. By the way the files I attached to this thread is content in an rtf file copied from the following websites --------------------------------------------------
http://mikevdm.com/BlogEntry/Key/Ne...tNetNuke-5
http://www.sunblognuke.com/Blog/ent...-List.aspx
------------------------------------------------- Since what I wanted folks to look at on these sites were in a bunch of tag type of things I new it would be stripped out if I were to paste it into this form field so I opted to do it this other way hoping you guys would be able to take a look at the code snippets to see what others suggested could be a solution but when trying there examples didn't have any luck in regards to the menu behaving more like standard div tags and css do but rather seemed to still old fast to the more obsolete tabular base. Thanks, Bo

My recommendation is to download and install the DDR Menu from DNNGarden.com. It really does create an unordered list.

But Joe,
just off the top of your head do you know how robust it is. Another words does it support a lot of the same parameters that the NAV provider supports (i.e. seperator, level, indicate child, etc. etc....)
Also in regards to this intellisense thing when working with visual studio would I get proper intellisense for attributes associated with things like DNN skin objects if I were to open the website at the root level instead of the portals/_default/skins level?
Thanks,
Bo

One more attribute I would like to have for DDR menu is the orientation so that I could say develop a horizontal or vertical menu in the same skin like Lee showed in his DNN navigational provider tutorial could be done with that skin object.
My client I know would like a horizontal and a vertical menu to appear on the same page so I just want to know if you know if the DDR menu is capable of this.
I know I need to do my own research in regards to documentation about the DDR but if you know right off the top of your head the answers to these two questions that would be a big plus.
Thanks,
Bo

Hello Joe,
I just googled this DDR menu and noticed that Lee did a tutorial on this back in November of this year. I'll go ahead and watch these videos to see if it answers my questions that I just asked you as afollow up to this thread but still if you know the answers off the top of your head you can let me and others know but I will see what Lee said about it as it may be sufficient to answers my questions about the various attributes that DDR provides.
Thanks,
Bo

Hello Joe and Lee
Great work I checked out a couple of your tutorials in regards to the DDR menu system and it looks very promising just like what I was hoping for. In fact I am in the process of downloading your navigational menu version 2 utorrial that came out in January 2010 to get a better grasp on styling in regards to DNN 5 only styles since I have been working with DNN 5 for quite some time and than the fact all these attributes and stuff can then be transferre to DDR menu is just great news for me.
Ya Joe you are right I am happy to finally find a robust and flexible menu system that really is unordered list based and not table based with a unordered list attribute that is suppose to make the NAV unordered but doesn't do to great of a job on it.
Hay by the way Joe, I just pushed to my computer one of my client's whole DNN installations in regards to the file system (not database) and than went to visual web developer 2008 professional and opted to choose the folder I through the whole DNN installation in as the root for my web application opposed to the skin folder as the root and ya the intellisense is working great now. I can click the space button near a DNN tag and see a list of the possible attributes just like you demoed on your tutorial with the first NAV tutorial you did in August of 2009 so I was pleased with that.
Now I have just got to upgrade my computer and my visual web developer to 2010 so I can better make use of jquery support that microsoft incorporated in its 2010 version.
Take Care,
Bo
