Hello,  I'm a DNN newbie.   I'm trying to set up my first LIVE DNN site after developing in my staging environment.  

To deploy it I did the following:

-- added portal aliases for the production environment,  my issue here is that my dnn install will be at an IP address not a domain.  The portal I'm trying to deploy is Portal 1 and it has a domain, which I entered for that portal logged in as Host before I moved the DB.    So I entered two Portal Aliases one for the IP address and one for the domain.
 
--backed up and restored the dnn db on the production db server, set up permissions for the dnn user

--copied the files from my staging build over to the live web server and set up an IIS website, assigned it the internal IP address that corresponds to the IP specified for my Portal Alias

--modified the web.config database connections to point to live db server

I am just getting 'This Site is unavailable Check back later.'

It seems most people find the db connection string to be the problem, but I don't think so in my case.  I think it may be related to portal aliases.

I do have other modules installed like Active Social and Active Forums, not sure if this has any bearing.


Can anyone help me?

Hello everyone, I solved my problem.

Here is what we did:

Made sure there was a DNS entry for the IP assigned to our DNN root install in IIS, and updated the Portal Alias in the DB to that domain.

Then , VERY IMPORTANT.
I had just completed the 5.6.1 upgrade prior to attempting to move the site. Part of the upgrade instructions included set the value of this key to false:
so you could perform a manual upgrade.

I had then moved the files over to the production location and left the value false, after reading a post that said this value MUST be true, I changed it and my site appeared and 'This site is currently unavailable' message went away.

Hope this helps some other newbie out there...

oh sorry see that my post didn't include the actual key in the web.config file, html stripping...sorry. It is the AutoUpgrade key, it must be TRUE

Did your site actually go through the upgrade process? 

The Autoupgrade=false is there to prevent the process from starting off when a casual user hits the site.  You can trigger it by browsing to http://yoursite.com/install/install.aspx.  The warning is intended to remind you to do that.

I'm surprised that you would have seen this had you simply copied a working site to your host.  Please provide more details.
