Hi Folks! Here is what I want to do, I can't seem to figure out how to do it! I'm on DNN 5.4 Here's what I need. A sidemenu, hides the root items aside from the selected selected section (say the root menu is Home | About | Contact) I want to show on the side: About - about inside page 1 - about inside page 2 - about inside page 3 Now if I select Inside page 2, I want to show: About - about Inside page 1 - - about inside page 11 - - about inside page 12 - about inside page 2 - about inside page 3 how do i do this? i'm tearing my hair out. i can get the indie pages to show but not the  le / root page. thanks!

The choices for the starting items in DNN Nav Menu are Root, Child, Parent, and Same.  So I think that this will not work for you.

There is a LEFTMENU skin object that might work, but documentation on it seems nearly non-existent.


These are some other random thoughts:


There are some third-party modules that might do what you need.  You might be able to start with something like that Accordion menu using the DNN Garden DDR Menu and do some customization on that.  I have also used NavXP from Avatar Software.

Actually, anything that starts with an unordered list ought to be amenable to styling that way with some jquery to turn off the nodes that you don't want to see.  You would want to turn off any higher level node that doesn't include the selected lower level node. but keep all of the current level and higher level nodes in the branch of the currently selected node visible.

Try starting with the DDR menu in an unstyled unordered list and see if there are some attributes that allow you to discover the currently selected branch.  Mark also has a tool that you can use to view the XML structure that is produced before it is converted to a list.  You could perhaps customize the XLT file to suppress all of the other branches.

There is a bc class (breadcrumb) that applies to all tabs in the branch of the currently selected page.  I'm guessing that by setting all tabs to be invisible in the menu and then setting bc to be visible that you could get what you want.  You would also have to set all children of the top item to be visible.  If that's right, you can do it all in CSS.

Thank you, Joseph. We bought the dnn360 nav suite but I can't get it modded to work in my favor. Will look into the nav menu!

I've never used the dnn360 product.  But, you might want to ask them for assistance.
