Recently Google has released yet another powerful feature: Google Instant Preview. I am not sure the extent of the global release, but is already active in US and UK.

The Instant Preview shows a preview of your site when you hover your mouse on the search result in Google. Google uses an screenshot of the cache of the site they have when they last indexed the site.

Now here is the problem. The cache of many DNN sites doesn't look right because of the DNN menu. This wasn't a problem in the past as few bothered to look at the cache. But now with instant preview, everyone get to see and more importantly might  judge your site by it.

To see an example of how the corruption of the menu looks like, type "ventrian" into Google and look at the instant preview or the Google cache of the site:


Not all sites are like this. For example www.dotnetnuke.com or even DNNCreative.com are not like this.

My question. Why some sites are like this and some are not. Is this to do with DNN version of the site, the skin or something else. My site's menu looks wrong much like ventrian's and I like to sort them out.

I'd guess that this has to do with Google's interpretation of the site's menu for the preview.  I did look at several other DotNetNuke sites.  Most are done correctly, but others are not.

Thanks Joseph for your input. That's exactly what I wonder: why some work and some don't and how can one end up in the camp that works. Although it is Google's interpretation, eventually it is to do with the DNN implementation simply because some sites work and some don't. If they all didn't work, I probably wouldn't bother. My curiosity is to know why some don't work. Is it to do with DNN version, skin or something else. Thanks

Most likely, there are different menus in use on those sites.
