I am trying to link to a pdf document using the create links icon. The link is established but when the pdf opens, the page is blank.

I've tried reloading the image. All my images are stored in an artwork folder on the file manager.

I've searched some other dnn forums and found many people experiencing the same problem. One solution was...

Look for a paramenter in your web.config file called "cacheRolesInCookie"

Change that setting to False.

I'm running DNN version 4.03.07. I've searched the web.config file and can't find the parameter metioned.

Any ideas?

Does the link that you have created work if you type it straight into a browser?

Good thought. The link didn't work, so I tried accessing it from the main portals folder rather than the artwork folder inside the portal. That did it. Interesting that gif images can be accessed but pdf's can't.

Lee, I spoke too soon. The link worked briefly but when I uploaded additional pdf's it quit.?? Just getting a blank page even when I type the address into a browser.

Have you made any special settings in the file manager? For instance, set the folder to use a secure folder, or set anything with the permissions?

The folders are all set to 'Standard-file system' and the permissions are set to 'all users'.

The text link will work randomly. I've tried the pdf link in the user defined table module and I get the following error message:

There was an error opening this document. The file is damaged and could not be repaired.

The file size of the original pdf and the upload match... thought maybe something was happening on the upload.

I've just read in the DotNetNuke.com forum that there is a problem using the default editor in the text/HTML module - it doesn't create the URLs correctly (this is in version 4.4 and has been fixed for version 4.4.1)

So it would be worth looking at the source HTML code in your text/HTML module to see how it has created the URL.  You can manually edit the URL and fix any errors.

I would also try using FTP to upload your PDF to the portals/0/ folder and then enter that URL into your browser window to see if that works.

It would also be worth testing the PDF using the documents module.

A few things to try, tag, you're now it!

If you still have problems, I will give you access to a test website that I use and you can try uploading the PDF to that site. -   Just register at: www.audiotuition.com and I will give you admin access.

Hmm... the URL's look good. I had looked at that before thinking that was culprit. I'm going update to 4.4.1 - why not.

The crazy pdf's are working again in the text module but when I tried the document module as suggested I received the same error message as the UDT.

Because the pdf's are not reliable at this time, I'm going to setup the pages as htm files and link via a URL address.
