Hi,
I had my DNN installation crash at one hosting provider and am now trying to move my content to another hosting provider... I downloaded the trial version of Redgate's SQL compare tool and managed to compare and synch all objects to the new hosting provider, but my actual pages lay-out and their content are not migrated..?!?! Can anyone tell me how to do this?
Thanks
Aad

It would be a lot easier if you could just move the database. It's hard to know what you might have missed.
Does any vestige of the site appear?

Are you saying just backup database one from hosting provider one and then restore on hosting provider 2 as database two?
That I could do.. Aad

Yes.
You will also need to adjust the PortalAlias table in the restored database. You will also need to edit web.config to connect to the new database.
You will also need to move a complete copy of your web directory to the new server first.

Hey Joe,
So basically it is the same procedure as with moving a live database down to a localhost server, right? I mean judging by the tutorials.. I looked in the database using sql management studio and I see all the content is in there, but when I use SQL compare all runs well except the getHTML stored procedure. Is this the SP that sends over the content by chance?

Hi Joe,
I think one crucial step is missing in the tutorial around this topic, which is relevant only when you want to migrate your contents to another live server with a hosting provider. Do you restore to a new database or can you restore to an existing database? I did both, and in the latter case (existing db) the restore seemed to add duplicate tables, and in the former (new db) it seemed okay, but content was not migrated..!? I did a local back up and looked at the tables, all contents were in there. I restored the database and then the content was not visible..

You should set up SQL Server Management Studio to overwrite an existing database.
As for the case of content "not being there" I've not seen that. If all of the tables are there, you should not be having a problem.
