Does anyone know why the register button does not work in DNN 5.3.0 and above. I have tried to install from fresh DNN 5.4.3 and it has the same issue. Even if I upgrade a site that is on 5.2.4 which works to 5.4.3 it stops working whenever you click the register links on the skin even the default skin it happens and when you type http://yourdomain.tld/register.aspx it forwords back to the home page. I really need a work around or solution if anyone has one as we have 40 sites that all need upgrades and no way I can have that happening also I have done fresh installs built the sites then realised there was a problem so I have a few sites where no one can register and the site is dead in the water without users. Have posted this on Dotnetnuke.com but no luck with an answer so far.
Thanks for any help you maybe able to give.

Paul, I know this is no help, but I stopped at 5.2.3 for that very reason. Even clicking on the username at login, i.e. superuser or any user for that matter, didn't bring me to the profile page. It was going to be a nightmare to support, so I just went back to the latest version that worked.
Cheers, John

Register is working just fine on a 5.4.3 system that I have been working on today. It was upgraded from 5.4.3 and Register worked there, too. Are you experiencing this problem if you use the Minimal Extropy skin? Do you have a custom Login page defined? Does that work? |

Thanks for the answer John but I have been using DNN since version 2 and my knowledge of asp.net and vb has grown with it. There are some cool new features that I really want to play with. Plus I upgrade like 60% of my sites before I realised and these are active sites so I can not just go to an earlier backup to much would go wrong. I have posted this on the DNN forum but no answer yet and Joe yes I have tried it with minimal Extropy skin. All my sites were working fine until I upgraded past 5.3.0 and the last stable release I had was 5.2.4 . I do not use custom login. I ran a little test today and installed DNN, added no extra modules and checked the version was 5.4.3 then made sure user reg was set to public and tried to register same issue. Tried this on 3 different servers and on my test environment on my work machine and same issue. Some code that has been changed or added since 5.2.4 is causing all these issues. I read somewhere that the userprofile system has changed and I believe this is where the cause may lie but I have exhausted days on this and 2 of my colleagues who are hard core programmers are currently trying to find the solution to this issue but with no luck so far. I also know of about 30 other companies all over the world with this exact same issue and Dotnetnuke Core team seam to be ignoring it as it shows up in various shapes and sizes since version 5.3.0 Either that or they are as stumped as the rest of us. Hope they fix it soon as no one can register on my site and that's a big part of my business. Thanks again for the answers guys every little helps as tesco keep telling us. Anyway 1 other thing incase anyone from DNN Core happen to read this in the 5.4.2 release I notice on a fresh install if you tell a module to display on all pages it adds it to all the admin pages as well which is really annoying. Anyway bye for now Paul www.manctech.co.uk |

I tried this on a 5.2.3 install right out of the box. No issues at all
with Registration using the default site that is installed. Have
you made any modifications? There's got to be something happening? A
custom login page? Javascript enabled? As for the install on
every page, this happens now that the admin and host pages are more like
"normal" pages. You might find these helpful: |

Hi Joe as I said it is only 5.3.0 and above with this issue so installing 5.2.3 would be fine I have a few sites still on 5.2.4 and they work ok. it is only the sites that were upgraded to 5.3.0 or above that are having these issues and some of them are fresh installs. The last one I installed was 5.4.3 which is the latest version and it has the issue and I have installed it the same way I have always done for the past few years. There is no modification done and there no custom login and as for javascript its only what comes in the package you download direct from the DNN site for either the upgrade or the new install files. It is not a skin issue as it was fine in 5.2.4 and it is not an sql issue. I have been working on this all night and it is something that has changed in the user profile code since 5.2.4 and ver 5.3.0. Heres my test. install 5.2.4 fresh install using auto config and nothing changed in sites code this is from the new install zip file downloaded direct from dnn. No worries works fine. Just there is no telerik install 5.3.0 as before fresh install on auto config and nothing changed in site code also new install zip file download direct from dnn. Register issue can not access register page by clicking link in Minimal Extropy skin. type register.aspx at the end of the domain name it goes to the register page but when you try to sign up error after submit is clicked user profile is unavailable. Install 5.4.3 as before fresh install on auto config and nothing changed in site code also new install zip file download direct from dnn. Register issue can not access register page by clicking link in Minimal Extropy skin. type register.aspx at the end of the domain name it goes to the register page but when you try to sign up error after submit is clicked user profile is unavailable. It is slightly different on this version as it tries to go to www.domainname.tld/register.aspx and gets redirected back to the home page. So if other people are not having this issue what could it be. My sites prior to 5.3.0 work fine. my server is functioning correctly and I am not the only person in the world who is experiencing this issue. I will run further tests and let everyone know the outcome. Thanks Paul www.manctech.co.uk |

Here is where I am at. After some help from the DNN Community I have figured out that after a fresh install if you change the regitration setting in admin to not specified the links start to work so there is something wrong with the user profile system since version 5.3.0 was released. Now the problem is this is fine for new installs but sites that were updated do not work. as they will go to the register page but when you click submit an error will appear saying User Profile Unavailable and no email will be sent to verify the user but they will be added to the sites user list just not verified as they will not get an email. Thanks Paul |

Paul,
That you can get to the register page by URL but not by clicking the links is interesting.
The "common" feature here is javascript. The Register link and also the link on the Register page make javascript calls when clicked.
Do you have the same issue with Login, which is also a javascript link?

No Login Works fine. It is just the register that has issues. I have found that the register javascript has been changed in the new version since 5.3.0 so on a fresh install of 5.4.3 all you have to do is go to admin/site settings/ and then change the register page to not specified as the user profile page does not work correctly in the new versions of DNN. For an upgraded site this also works but the problem then is that when you submit your registration the restration errors saying An error has occurred. Error: User Registration is currently unavailable. It registers the user in user accounts but does not send the email to the new user so they are not aware that it has worked. I need a fix for this but I have just downloaded the source code version of DNN 5.2.4 , 5.3.0 and 5.4.3 so I can see what has changed and how this change has caused so many errors. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. Thanks Paul www.manctech.co.uk |

Had the same problem and found this workaround "Go to Admin, Site Settings and set the registration page to "None Specified" instead of the new "User Profle" page that is applied during the update." http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community...fault.aspx Paul.. |

Hi Paul, I already figured this out but the problem is that all third party modules and skin objects that have a register link like my mini login module now do not work even when you change the registration page its annoying. I have contacted the makers of all my third party modules to request an update hopefully they have something soon. Thanks again Paul |
