Efficient use of "Friendly URL"

Hello, I am starting my website, and I have questions related to URL... I am very active in various video forums (non linear editing software), and my current website (not DNN) is often referenced in the forum by people visiting it. So, one of the most important concept of my website is URL. I need "friendly url", so people can easily remind them (and make copy-paste of URL of interest). When a visitor surf my new DNN website and goes to the page related to DNN, he is facing a long URL: http://declic-video-fx.com/DNN/tabi...fault.aspx That's why I have introduced friendly URL to have something shorter: http://declic-video-fx.com/dnn.aspx But of course, if the user surf my website from the home page, he will arrive on this weird URL and he may copy-paste this weird URL in the forum. To avoid this, I have thought of the following: Making tabs with links to pages on my website. It means that the menu are only links to pages of my website. These pages does ot appear on the menu, just called through the menu. This way, I can use as many friendly url I want, people will never noticed the strange URL... Is it a good idea ?? In particular, concerning SEO and indexing content by search engine ?? What does specialist think about this ? Because if I start this way, it will be very difficult to switch back. Déclic Vidéo FX

Yes, I have also seen the other one very similar: HrefExchanger Do you know which one is better ? And I am also wondering if it works with localisation, in particular the new module I just buyed, Apollo PageLocalisation ? Any idea ??? Hello Declic I am sorry I don't know enough about either one to make a comparison. But as they are both free to try, you could perhaps test each one to find which best suits your requirement. I would be interested to hear which one you prefered, i f any, and why. BTW which version of DNN are you using? Regards Lynn

Hello DV I am currently using: Ventrain "Friendly Urls" which I have found to work quite well for me, (it works automatically not manually). I have not used Snapsis Pageblaster for Friendly URL purposes, only for speed/compression purposes. However, I have just upgraded to DNN 4.4.0 and it seems that the core are using Blowery compression and consequently I have no need to use Snapsis compression also. Although the latest PageBlaster it is not FREE it boasts to have many extra enhancement features, (e.g. full page validation output) which I find quite attractive and I am considering purchasing this module, if I find that it fulfils its claims. If you decide to buy it, I would be interested in your un-biased findings. I appears that I am alone on this forum today ( I am fed up with turkey), but I am sure other people have visited also, perhaps they are only looking for answers and are unable to reply to others. I expect Lee will get around to answer the so far unanswered questions, he is probably waiting for the Christmas dinner to settle and is still too full to move. Regards Lynn

Hello again The full page validation I mentioned is when a web page is fully XHTML complient and does not have any errors when a validation check is made. If you are using the FF or IE Developers toolbar you have the option to do a validation check on any web page you are currently viewing. It will then give a list of errors from that page, the skin etc., or it might fully validate, which is very difficult using DNN. The DNN core code currently does not meet full validation as they do not use XHTML. I live in the UK and it is a regulation that all websites should be fully accessible to people of all abilities. If a page does not comply then it may not be possible to be read, using a screen reader (e.g. used by people with very poor vision). I hope that explanation answers your question.
