I had a site up and running yesterday. I believed a third party datagrid module caused a few problems, so as the site was new and almost empty I removed ALL files from my hosting provider, created a fresh SQL database with a new name, and did a fresh install of DNN 5.2 There were absolutely no problems flagged during the install, but when I go to my site I get: "DotNetNuke Error: An error has occurred." and pressing "Return to site" has no effect. The URL says "http://www.mysite.org.uk/Default.as...&content=0" This was the error I believed the datagrid was causing (different tabID) but now I'm not sure. I can access the SQL DB through SQL Server Management Studio but I have no idea what the problem is or what I should be looking for. If anyone has any ideas or can suggest something to try I'd be grateful. Thanks, Pete

First, can you verify that you have the proper prerequisites: ASP.NET 5.5 with SP1 and SQL Server 2005 or greater?

During the installation, did you do the file permissions test?

What other configuration did you do prior to starting the installation?

My hosting site has MS SQL Server 2008 and instructions for installing DNN v5 so I am assuming ASP.NET side is fine too - plus I did have a live working site for a couple of days.

Yes, file permissions test was successful.

I changed web.config with my new connection strings - Database connection test was OK on install.

I did NOT change any of the mail settings for host or admin accounts (left them as host@change.me etc)

I changed the portal name from My_Website to a 3-character name.

That's about it.


I've had a quick look at the TABS table in the SQL DB and where tabid < 40 these show PortalID=NULL, but tabid >=40 shows PortalID=0. TabID 40 also has completely empty ICONFILE, TITLE, and DESCRIPTION fields. I don't know if that is normal/correct or not. The fact that it says "parsing++" makes me wonder about missing NULLs or similar.

I'm stumped.

I think that is normal.  Those pages are prototypes for the pages created when a new portal is created.

Does your host offer any support?  You might ask them to take a look and make sure that everything is configured correctly.  If you followed their directions and something doesn't work, I'd hope that they can help.

Thanks. I have a ticket raised with them. It seems odd that the error 'Unexpected end of file..." doesn't show up that often in relation to DNN - so it may more likely be a SQL Server glitch, perhaps. Thanks for looking, anyway. I'll let you know how I get on. Regards, Pete
