I am a newbie when it comes to dotnetnuke. I am developing a website where we will have both English and French content. Currently I am developing the english content, however I need to put the french content too later. In the conventional .net world I will just just reditect my "French" link to  ~/fr/default.aspx (French version) and that page will have a different master page with all the user controls in French or vice versa. How would I achieve the same functionality using the dotnetnuke CMS? Currently my menu is in English and I need to develop it in French as well. Do I have to use different skins for the French page?

DotNetNuke is capable of multiple-languages using a facility called localization. You can obtain and install "Language Packs" that will replace all of the standard text with multi-language versions, and there is a language skin object that can be used so that a user can choose the language.

Similarly, there are techniques to localize menus, and there are multiple-language analogs of the Text/HTML module. You provide the multiple language versions of the content, and the correct version will be rendered based on the language choice.

Some of these modules are available for free, while others are available for purchase. If you Google "DotNetNuke multiple languages" you will find much of this. There is also a "Language and internationalization" forum at DotNetNuke.com. I believe that it is the German DotNetNuke User's group that has a fairly large collection of multi-language items for DotNetNuke.

I will try to figure this out, however I was wondering if there is any tutorial or video posted by Lee or anyone else which can show me how to do this (that's basically how I am learning dotnetnuke). As you can see in the attached images there are two menus. The top menu is built using the [MENU] token and the bottom one is a hard coded menu in the skin. The only way I know right now to change the menu is change the bottom menu using a different skin, however I still couldn't figure out how to change the top menu. Even a basic example on this one would be great. Thanks

Has anyone ever come across this Skin Object. I am trying to make my website multi lingual and I am having a hard time doing it. Has anyone ever used DSLOCALESELECTOR. It seems like it is not working. Does anyone what can be the problem and how to fix it. Please see the image. Also, can anyone give me an example of how to add multiple languages in skin.xml file both for DSLOCALESELECTOR and LANGUAGE object. For my project I am using English and French.

I just read your question and probably I am a little bit late with my response but maybe it can help.
In the past I have build a few multilingual websites and i have noticed that there a different approaches to solve this problem.

My first try was to use the free Apollo multilanguage modules which work very nicely http://www.apollo-software.nl/DotNe...ault.aspx. It allows you to enter text in different languages in the same module. So the website structure for both languages remains the same, and only the contents can be localized.

Another approach is to use the (free) Adequation localization extensions http://www.adequation-dotnetnuke.co...rview.aspx which I used in the following site : http://www.snoekbaarsgids.nl.  Here you create different pages for different languages. This allows you to add or remove pages or modules for a specific language. So you can have a different structure for different langages. I found this approach very flexible.

There a more localization solutions available but I have not tried them. I hope this gives you some ideas to build your website.
