The most direct approach would be to add the code to your skin file.

You might find it easier, though, to use a module such as Will Strohl's injection module (see willstrohl.com for a free download).

I will definitely check this module that you are talking about. For a fact, I know that the code does not work if it's added directly to an empty TEXT/HTML module.

This is what I've got but I still don't understand it

You can put javascript directly in your skin file.

You can also put javascript into a module.  For the Text/HTML module, be sure to put it in the "source" version. 

It's often better, though, to use a module's header or footer section for small chunks of code ...

This is exactly what I was trying to say It does not work on Text/HTML module "source" version.
But I still have to try the other things you talk about. I will try them on Monday and I will write back.

It will work provided that you get everything exactly right.

But, it's probably more straightforward to use the Inject module.

Look at the page's source in your browser to see the exact code that the browser is looking at.  Use IE8's developer tools to debug your javascript code.

You can also use jquery.
