Is it true that the current and all future versions of DNN cannot run on a Windows XP machine? I planned on developing a portal using DNN 5.1.2 using my Windows XP desktop with .NET 3.5 and SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 and IIS 5.1 . When I downloaded the DNN 5.1.2 the system requirements stated that IIS 6.0 or higher was required. I come to find that IIS 6.0 cannot be installed on Windows XP, since a minimum of Windows Server 2003 is needed for IIS 6.0 . Being DNN 5.1.2 requires IIS 6.0 which cannot be installed on my Windows XP desktop, it follows that it is not possible to use current and ongoing versions of DNN on an XP machine any longer. Is this a true statement? If not, where is my logic off, and how can I accomplish this?

I'm running a test instance of 5.1.2 on an XP machine with IIS 5.1. I haven't noticed any problems. But, it probably makes sense to ask over on the DNN support forums.
Version 5.2 and higher will require ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 and SQL Server 2005.

Thanks Joe, You gave me the encouragement to go ahead and set up my development portal with the environment I mentioned: Windows XP, IIS 5.1, ASP.NET 3.5, and SQL Server 2008. The only difference in my environment and your test environment is the version of SQL Server, but I wouldn't think that to be a problem. I wonder how I can get an explanation of why the download of 5.1.2 says that IIS 6.0 or higher is required.

Ask over on the DotNetNuke forums. You'll find many of the "core team" there.

I did receive a response from Joe Craig. I also asked on DotNetNuke Forums as Joe suggested and received a few replies saying that it works on IIS 5.1 . However, I never received a response as to why the "DotNetNuke Installation" guide which I downloaded from DotNetNuke.com indicates that IIS 6 or greater is required. Leaves me to wonder what is going to go wrong and when?

Just a thought about moving forward ... Version 5.2 will require ASP.NET 3.5 (and a service pack). So, if you want to stay on an upgrade path, you'll want to keep that in mind.
