I have a few PDF files on my site that I want to send a link to ...
ie. www.mysite.com/pdf/my.pdf
I know where it is located on my site in the file manager....
/Portals/0/pdf/my.pdf
I know how to link internally, just not how to provide a link to the outside world?
Do I need to use the URL rewriter?

To provide the link all you need to use is:
www.mysite.com/Portals/0/pdf/my.pdf
Thanks,

Thanks Lee.
Is there a way to put a file in the root?
ie. instead of www.mysite.com/Portals/0/pdf/file.pdf
becomes
www.mysite.com/file.pdf

Well, you can but it's a very bad practice. If you put a file in the website's root directory you can use it as you have described. Create the directory and put files there.
The downside is that any portal will have access to those files, and you cannot restrict them to security roles, etc.
It might be better to use URL rewriting to remove /Portals/0 from the URL. You can do this with the
iFinity URL Master Module
. Note that there are both free and commercial versions.

I'm relatively new to DNN and we use 7.x. I need to redirect our file download URL's but I can't find where to set this up. I too need to remove the /portals/0 portion. Can you point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Tony Green
