Registration - invalid email address

Hi, Can someone help please? How does one fix the DNN standard registration page to allow email address with a hyphen eg. name-name@webaddress.com At the moment, any email address with a hyphen is considered invalid, hence can't register. Thank you.

Try this. Go to ADMIN > User Accounts > User Settings > in email address validation field, paste the following \b[a-zA-Z0-9._%\-+']+@[a-zA-Z0-9.\-]+\.[a-zA-Z]{2,4}\b this should solve your problem.

Look at Users, User Settings. There is a "regular expression" there that is used to validate email addresses. You will want to replace it with one that accepts hyphens. I think that this one will work: \b[A-Z0-9._%-]+@[A-Z0-9.-]+\.[A-Z]{2,4}\b You can test regular expressions at http://regexlib.com/RETester.aspx. There is also a library there.

Thank you for the help. Only problem, I can't find the area "Email address validation" on our website. This particular website is running on an older platform (I think 4.6), hence it is not there. Is there anywhere else I can add those expressions? Thanks.

I don't have a 4.6 version. If it exists, look on the User Accounts page for a link to User Settings. If it is not there, that ought to be a good reason to update your installation.

Thanks Joseph. Yeah, checked at that location and it wasn't there (thought it may be in another location - for older DNN versions). Will be upgrading in the next few months - thought there is a quick solution for the time being. Thanks.

Well ... you could get into the login/authentication code and do it there. I wouldn't exactly recommend that, though. I'd put my time and effort into doing the upgrade. Is there a reason that you have to wait? I think that going from 4.6 to 4.9.x should be "relatively" straightforward. The trick is to get to 4.6.2. Then, you can upgrade from 4.6.2 to 4.9.x without having to manually edit web.config.

Oh ok... Thanks Joseph. We are doing a revamp of the whole site, planning to upgrade when we go live with this new look... (mmm maybe it should be upgraded before we do the revamp?)
