I have 2 problems: I have installed DNN 5.1 and have it working fine on /localhost/Dotnetnuke but it will is not available from the Internet. How can I fix that? Next I want this site under www.domain.com and not www.domain.com/Dotnetnuke how do I fix that? I forgot to add that I did this directly on the prodcution server itself.

I think I solved my own problem. I added a portal alias and then went into "Basic settings" and pointed to the Dotnetnuke folder. It worked that's the good part but did I do something inherently wrong?

You always need to have an entry in the portalalias table that matches your site's domain. If there are multiple domains (that includes www. and non-www), you need to have two entries.
And, you need to have IIS and DNS configured such that requests are routed correctly to your web directory.
If you temporarily place and index.htm page in your installation's root directory, you can use that to verify that requests are reaching the right place. Then, remove it. Errors that occur after that probably have to do with portalalias.

Hi Guys,
Read your comments with great interest. I have installed DNN 5.0.2 successfully. Have localhost/dnn working locally on webserver, can not reach it from internet, run into IIS. Added index.htm which is then served. Rename index.htm to app_offline.htm and same message (as in index.htm) is served. What the heck do I do... I run IIS7 on windows 2008 with SQL2008 express.
I have added various portal aliases (Ip address, www. etc)
Any comments would be welcome as I am quickly losing my mind here..
Thanks
Aad

With index.htm and app_offline.htm, I assume that you see those pages when you use the correct URL. That tells you (1) that IIS and DNS are configured correctly and (2) that ASP.NET also is working. So ... the problem has to do with the DotNetNuke configuration.
Exactly what happens when you try to browse to your site? What is the error message?

Hi,
Thank you for your reaction. If I entered the URL for the website I would land on the IIS7 startpage on my webserver. If I took away the startpage it would generate just a 404 error page. I added the website url to IIS as a host header and now I managed to install DNN but I have to include /DotNetNuke to see the website. DNN does not seem to recognize the site as a portal yet. I added a redirect script to send URL requests to URL/DOtnetnuke so I guess I am okay for now, but I wonder what will happen if I add another portal..

Where did you have the index and app_offline pages when they worked?

Hi there, sorry for the belated response. I feel like a complete idiot.. I re-read the topic and another member commented he adjusted the basic settings, I assumed in DNN (which I could not find..). I suppose now he meant in IIS. My default website pointed to c:\inetpub\wwwroot. I placed the index.htm test file there and the app_offline file as well. The DNN installation is on C:\DotNetNuke. Once I pointed the basic settings in IIS to this directory everything worked like a charm, the new portal alias I added as well... I am getting too old for this stuff..
Finally I can get to the fun stuff now, skinning and content!
Thanks again for bearing with me on this one!
