installing DNN 4.9.4 on Windows XP with SQL Server 2005

Hi all, Sorry but I am a real beginner. I'm struggeling for days now to install DotNetNuke on my laptop which has a Windows XP and SQL Server 2005 installed. I've change my web.config to work with SQL Server 2005. I added the security to my directory. I when I want to install DNN from my explorer, my system reclaims something about IIS-metabase. "Cannot get access to the IIS-metabase". ASP.NET should be read access to the IIS-metabase. Is this as something to do with DNN. Anybody an idea where to look? Thanks!! Danny

No, it is an issue with IIS and permissions. I've seen something like this on a test site that I was helping with, and I haven't had time to work on it either. Also, you don't need to (shouldn't) edit web.config. Let the Install Wizard do that work for you.

Hi Joe, I've retried my installation. First of all I looked again at the video of "Install DNN WinXp Pro" of Lee. But I get the same problem. I get the same problem. I haven't installed SQL Server 2005 (not express) until now. Has that something to do with my problem?? Danny

Hello, It will be something to do with the configuration of the various programmes and you will need to use SQL Server 2005 or SQL Server 2005 Express to install DNN. One thing I do suggest is to use a Virtual PC and start with a clean install, this way you should avoid any potential configuration issues. If you follow each step in the tutorial for installing + configuring the various programmes you should be ok. (ie. make sure SQL Server is set to 'Mixed Mode' when you install it) How to setup and use Microsoft Virtual PC 2007
