Hello, don't any of you know, how to connect to other sql server installed on the same server and IP? I've installed second sql05 express on server. .NET application connects via my port to the second server without any problems, but dnn seems not to be able to connect. I use the same connection priciple with some.ip.address.num,portnum as with .NET app, but without any effect. I tried to make the same table on both sql servers, but the dnn always connects to the server as it was no port in connection string. The .NET app is switching between two servers as I delete or add the port setting to web.config. I'm trying to solve this issue, because I changed collation of my dnn (according to my local one). The problem is that if you have different collation on server than is set to dnn dB, you are not able to install any modules or upgrade dnn. As I red many posts on how to change the sql collation, I realised, that the best way is to reinstall sql server and move everything to new server. Have you some experience with this or any suggestions? Thanks Tomas

You will have to use a second configuration string. I have one DotNetNuke site that connects to four different databases but with a single server. I have another that connects to multiple databases on two different SQL Servers.

DotNetNuke uses a single database and all of it's tables reside there.

First of all, thank you for response. Actually I'm connecting to several databases on one server and I assume it is not problem to connect to other sql server, but I did not test it. The problem comes when I have 2 sql servers on one server installed - so they can be accessed via different ports. And there is the problem. Standard .NET app is able to connect to both. First with no port in connection string (it connects to standard port) and second with adding the port number into connection string. But DNN connects always to the default one, as it probably somehow ignores the port number in connection string. So I don't know how to enable DNN to connect on different ports... Thanks

I'm not quite sure that I understand. 

Normally there are two connection strings in the web.config file.  These should ALWAYS point to the same SQL Server and database.

You may add other connection strings if you have modules that require them.  But, all of the "standard" DotNetNuke modules will use the standard connection and connect to the single DotNetNuke database.

If you need the standard connection to specify a port, that is supported.  Here is an example of a connection string from one of my installations:

connectionString="Server=xx.yy.zz.ss,25000;Database=C3086;uid=myuser;pwd=mypass;"

That works without any problems.
