Great site, especially for me looking for a good CMS to use. DNN looks like it should fit the bill.

I loaded up VWD Express, installed DNN Starter, worked first time, started to go through your great tutorials. But when I open up my new test DNN website and start to make changes, man, so slow in doing anything, and my poor old disk drive is thrashing like a mad thing. So I thought maybe it's connected to VWD as plenty of posts on asp.net complain about it's performance. Loaded up the normal install file but still loads of disk thrashing as soon as I make any changes to the DNN site.

Ok my machine's not that powerful (AMD 3000 and 512 memory) but it's almost completely unusable. It's driving me back to hand coding on Adobe GoLive, but that's no good as it doesn't address my need for a CMS.

Help. I want to use DNN but I can't go on like this. Any ideas?

what operating system are you running?

the operating system required are:

Windows 2000 services pack 4

Windows xp services pack 2 and others

although I don’t think its a good idea to run on such operating systems such as windows server 2003 services pack 1 because high levels of memory and space is needed

Is recommended that your processor runs on 1 GHz or higher, though it can still work at a lower processing speed as time will be consumed.

Your RAM sounds good (recommended 256 MB)

And the full installation is 1.3 GB, I hope this helps?

thanks very much for the reply. I'm running W2k SP4. The processor spec is 1.8GHz (but I don't know how to check if it is running at this speed or not ).

Now that I'm getting through the tutorials, with other applications kept at a minimum, overall it's liveable with. I expect it's just a machine issue.

But what did you mean about the full install being 1.3GB. Full install of what - DNN or VWD? Both installs on my machine are c30MB.

1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management.
2. Expand System Information.
3. Click System Summary and locate Processor in the Item column. The processor speed is listed in the Value column.

thanks again for the info. I checked and it's 1.8GHz. I think that the problem is just a memory/paging issue. I check the task manager all the time just to make sure it's not running out of memory. 1024MB would be luxury I think!

I have the same problem, my system is running on a WXP SP 2 OS and 1 GM RAM with a 1.8 GHz Processor.
