I had posted on a forum, and was given a path where i could change the password error message using a resoure file directly in the DNN file directory.

I know have been told to change that error message, and cannot find the file where i made the change.

I have been given this path throught the gui,

Admin - Languages ---- then click Language Editor

Local Resources - Admin - Authentication - App_LocalResources - Login.ascx

But, then changes to the password error message there are still overridden by the previous changes i made.

Will someone tell me which resource file is the one i need to access my original changes ? (please)

I really do recommend making those changes with the Language Editor.

It is Login.ascx.resx that you want to edit.

I am sorry to have to report that changing the error message in the gui for the Login.resx has not changed the error message that i had put in previously (via a method i cannnot recall.)

I have changed the message at the login.resx, and it is still the custom message i put in before, not the new message i put in today.

By editting the AppGlobalResources\SharedResources.resx file, i was able to have the password error message change for non admin users. But, i haven't been able to get the password error text to change for either the host or administrator accounts.

Any ideas ?

There are actually TWO (or more) versions of the resx files. There is an installation version and there is a portal version. The portal version overrides the installation version files, so that different portals can have different changes.

This is why it is always best to use the language editor to make changes, and it also helps to know if you are using the Host Language Editor or the Portal (Admin) Language Editor.

You might want look through your web directory to see if you have multiple versions of Login.ascx.resx

Thank you for being on top of this. By making changes in the host language editor, i was able to get the message to stick. Maybe not the best approach for next time, but for this occassion, it worked fine for me.
