Hi all,

I have installed DNN 5.0 on Windows Vista Ultimate using SQL Server express and was able to get the vanilla DNN site to compile and come up in IE 7.

I then created a custom module and rebuilt the website - it recompiled with no errors. But now when I run it I get the generic ie error:

"Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

What's going on? How can I determine what the real error is?

Are you able to login at all? If you can, look at the Admin, Event Log page for (hopefully) more information. If you can't login, you will have to look directly into the EventLog table in your database.

The last entry in the EventLog table was over 2 weeks ago.

It seems the DNN code isn't even running in VS2008, and that it's never even hitting the database.

I'm running this from within VS 2008.

Is there some configuration I have to do or something?

I'm starting to think it would be faster to write the website by hand

There must be something easy that I'm missing.

I get the same error now, when I access the site from another computer: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".
I already added the portal alias and it was working fine a few days ago. It worked locally and from other computer too. I don't know what happened in the meantime, might be some windows update or other security issues.
Now it still works locally, I only get the error from the other computer.
The local computer is a Windows 7 Pro (32bit) and the external one is Windows XP Pro.
I configured the logs following the video tutorials here on dnn creative, but nothing is logged under Admin/Event Viewer when I try to acess the site from the other PC.
Under the Windows 7 security logs, I can see these events:

Is this that could block the access? This only started from today. Do you know what might be causing it?

Ok, finally I fixed in the meantime.
I have a Symantec Endpoint Protection on my computer which comes with a firewall and somehow I enabled the Windows firewall, and probably didn't work since then.
I have reset the Windows firewall to default and restarted the computer, and now under Windows Firewall it shows that the firewall settings are managed by Symantec Endpoint Protection, all the links are disabled, I cannot even turn Win firewall on, I don't know how I was able to turn it on before.

Are these computers and the site in a local network without DNS?
