Hello.
I am brand new to DNN. I have been uploading modules to my new DNN 5.0 installation, and got this error message.
A critical error has occurred. Method not found: 'System.Collections.Hashtable DotNetNuke.Services.Authentication.AuthenticationConfigBase.get_ModuleSettings()'.
Can you please tell me what I should do?
Thank you,
Norman

Hmm. It looks like I cannot log in, either. The modules I installed (in order) before the error were these: Newsfeeds ActiveDirectory Announcements Blog CardSpace Chat DNN Survey Documents Events FAQ's FCKHTMLEditor would not load. Feedback Forum Help HTML_04.08.01 said it was already installed httpdocs020609 said it was already installed IFrame Links LiveID would not install Map Media Reports I have the following modules still to upload: Repository Store UserDefinedTable UsersOnline Wiki Since I cannot even log in, I assume I am going to have to have my ISP reset my install to the .bak file? And can anyone please let me know which modules I should not attempt to re-install, so I do not get this problem again? Thank you, Norman |

None of those module installations should have caused the problem that you reported. What happens when you try to login? |

When I press, 'Login', it gives me an error message: A critical error has occurred. Method not found: 'System.Collections.Hashtable DotNetNuke.Services.Authentication.AuthenticationConfigBase.get_ModuleSettings()'. It does not seem to matter how many times I press it. It will take me to the register screen, but it will not let me log in. Norman |

Hello again. Apparently there are five or six guys on the DNN forum with the same problem since about 12/28-29-08. Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this? Thank you, Norman |

Hi Joe. http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community...fault.aspx There were a number of remedies mentioned in this thread, but I did not understand how to carry any of them out. Also, from my very limited knowledge (and I could easily be wrong), they seemed like they were remedies for a home-based server (or at least a server which one can access), which does not describe my situation. Three experienced posters recommended specifically NOT installing the ActiveDirectory or CardSpace modules, as they suspected these three modules to be the culprits. Since I have no idea how to perform the other remedies they mention, I am wondering if the best thing to do might just be to ask my ISP to give me another clean install of DNN 5.0, and then not install ActiveDirectory, or CardSpace. I would lose about five hours of work, but it would get me unstuck, and since I have no idea how to effect the other remedies they mention, it seems like it might be the quickest, easiest way to get back to developing my website. I would love to hear your comments and/or recommendations. Thank you, Norman |

If you are not using those other providers, then you should be able to solve the problem by removing them. I'm guessing that your Host Settings has specified to use those providers.
Not being able to login limits what you can do.
If you have access to your database, then open the table named Authentication. Set IsEnabled to False for LiveID and OpenID. Save the changes, and then restart your website. If you can't simply reboot your server, you'll need to edit web.config, insert a space somewhere that it doesn't matter, save web.config and browse to your site.
Hopefully that will work.

Hi Joe. It turned out my ISP had a backup from the night before I added the modules, and I asked them to restore it. The only time I lost was in re-uploading the modules last night, so it was not too bad. I omitted ActiveDirectory and cardSpace from the uploads this time, and now I can log in. For some reason FCKEditor, Reports and Store did not want to upload, so I omitted them also. Perhaps I can deal with them later. Thank you for your help. Norman |

I'm not sure what you mean about removing modules from the uploads. Can you explain?

For those that failed to install, did you try to install from the Module Definitions page after the site was reinstalled?

Yes. I clicked on Module Definitions, and then Add Module. The module "Active Social" shows up in the list of extensions at the bottom of the page, but not in the "Add A Module" drop down list at the top of the page. |

If ActiveSocial shows up in the list of modules, then I assume it already was installed. You might find it useful to view How to install a module to DotNetNuke. Also, take a look at the new "Dashboard" page (on the Host menu). That will give you a list of modules installed and their version numbers. |

OK, I viewed the tutorial again, thank you. I viewed the Dashboard, and did not see ActiveSocial listed there. However, after clicking on Module Definitions again, I did click the link called "Install Additional Extensions" at the top of the page. I saw a whole list of extensions that I could add. The modules you see listed as installable are part of the distribution, and you should be able to install them without getting a separate copy of the modules.
The tutorial assumes that you have downloaded modules from other places, including separate modules from DotNetNuke.com. You can use the Install New Module dropdown to do that.
If ActiveSocial isn't installed then you can install it, too, if you have the correct zip file.
It would be helpful if you could cut and paste the entire error message here. You can see more detailed versions of the errors in the Event Log. Seeing that might be helpful.

In other words, I hypothetically did not need to download them from the DNN main site (but could have just selected them in this dialogue)? I would try to reproduce the error but I am emailing with ActiveModules, and a guy from there is going to log in as host, and try to help me with this, so I think I should stay hands-off for the moment. If he is not able to solve the problem, I will try to post the error message here. Thank you for your continuing help. Norman |

Well ... I happen to think that the ActiveModules crew is top notch. So, you are in good hands. I'll be interested to hear your "review" of ActiveSocial once you get into it. I did take a look about a month ago, and it looked promising, but there were still a number of incomplete features. If you are interested in the general "social networking" issue, you might also want to take a look at at Smart-Thinker's modules. They now are free! |
