hi, i have a little question regarding the registration module of DNN 4.9.1
i know about the upgrade issues this will bring and the other modules that i could try but i cant spend any money on it.
i want to add a basic field to the dotnetnuke registration, i so far have found out it needs to be in the UserEditor control, along with the email, first name and last name fields.
i have tried editing
controls/user.ascx
admin/authentication/user/login.ascx
desktopmodules/authenticationmodules/dnn/login.ascx
but none of those gave me the option i want.
simply said.
i would like another field at the registration
i would like the field to show up at the admin > user accounts section
i would like the value being read only to all users except admins and hosts
can anyone give me a push in the right direction about which file i must edit? please do not reply with third party registration modules since i already have disregarded those options.
*edit*
using the admin panel isnt an option either because the i need the field to be validated by a script that checks it against a database value. thus i would need to have a fixed ID to work with (unless someone can tell me how to retrieve the generated ID and make its value read-only for normal users)
thanks in advance

If you have to do this yourself ...
I think that almost everything can be done by adding a profile property and making it required for registration.
If you are really doing this because you need to authenticate users against another database, you might want to look into building a special "authentication provider." If you google that, you may find some help.
Also, some more specific details regarding exactly what you are trying to do would help me answer your questions better.

well, ill try to explain as good as i can
an user registers for the site using his given ID
the site checks the ID in another database for existence and expiration
the ID gets written into the user profile but can only be changed by admins
an user logs into the website
the users ID gets read from his profile and checked for expiry
if the ID is still valid, the user gets logged in
if the ID is non-existent or expired, there should be an appropriate error returned

I think that you should be looking at "authentication providers" and perhaps creating a custom one. There are some good models - LiveID, OpenID, and ActiveDirectory. Look in the DotNetNuke forums.
