I'm trying to work with a skin using MVWD 2008 Express but get the following errors when looking at the skin in "Design" view. Error Rendering Control - dnnLOGOThe file '~/admin/Skins/Logo.ascx' was not found." Error Rendering Control - dnnSearchThe file '~/Admin/Skins/Search.ascx' was not found. Error Rendering Control - dnnLOGINThe file '~/admin/Skins/Login.ascx' was not found. Error Rendering Control - dnnUserThe file '~/admin/Skins/User.ascx' was not found. Error Creating Control - AdminHostListUnknown server tag 'Snapsis:NavMenu'. Error Creating Control - navUnknown server tag 'Snapsis:NavMenu'. Error Rendering Control - dnnCopyrightThe file '~/admin/Skins/Copyright.ascx' was not found. Error Rendering Control - dnnTermsThe file '~/admin/Skins/Terms.ascx' was not found. If you've just opened the skin in VWD2008, this is normal because VWD doesn't know where to find those files, as they are part of DotNetNuke. Those will be found when the skin is installed in a working DotNetNuke installation.

Joe, Many thanks...that is what I was afraid of ....seems like it would be easier to work with the skin as an HTML file but I don't understand how to convert it to HTML from ASCX yet...I'm working my way through Lee's tutorials slowly but surly.

Whether you work with the html file or the ascx file is a matter of personal preference. When you upload or parse a skin file, DotNetNuke essentially converts the html file to ascx. If you work with the ascx version, just leave out the html version. If you want to work with the skin files and see that they look like, install a local copy of DotNetNuke and open that with VS or VWD. Then, when you edit the skin file you can see how it will look in the VWD or VS window.

Joe, That's what I was looking for...The DNN portal I'm working on is really only a test bed at the moment but it is hosted rather then local. I had several DNN local host installs until I rebuilt my system due to a number of issues related to Windows XP over the long haul....boot up was taking nearly 5 minutes...now it only takes a few seconds to be ready to go but I no longer have DNN installed....Will do that later this week because I really want to learn how to make my own skins and modify existing skins to suit our needs.
