I am getting the following error when I take a test user and try to use the forgot password feature of DNN:

"Password could not be sent at this moment. Please try again later or contact the site administrator."


I have double-checked my host account settings(test email passes just fine), and admin account settings.

As a dnn creative member I also reviewed the email setup procedure with the video.

I have set the smtp authentication to NTLM as it was the only option that gave me a successful test message.

Does anyone have any ideas.  Another issue I seem to be having is that most often I do not get notified when a new user registers, and I have set it up to need my authorization before they have access to the portal.

Solved. Turns out my isp changed their smtp relay server and did not tell me.

I'm getting the same error when requesting the password from the login prompt and when I send out a random password from the admin, the recipient never receives the email.
I have a ticket open with ihost--just wondering if you had any thoughts on this.

Do you receive a message when you use the "Test" link on the host settings page for SMTP?

I did receive the test from the settings page. Now ihost is saying that I should use the 'basic authentication' and I did switch that, but I still receive the error. Something that does puzzle me is that when I set the authentication for 'basic', I have to enter the username and password for the SMTP. I'm not sure which username and password to use though???

I'm assuming that you received the test message at a mailbox that has the same domain as your website?

When logging in to the SMTP server, you need to use a username and password that it (the SMTP server) recognizes.  So, you should use an username/password that corresponds to a mailbox on the mail system to which the SMTP server belongs. 

I would guess that the SMTP server is refusing to "relay" the message to an outside email address when you are not logged in.  This is done to prevent spammers from using your SMTP server to send mail.  By logging in, you become authorized to send mail to outside addresses.
