I've recently transferred my ddn website from one url to another. (www.rainfordtest.com to www.rainfordcollege.org.uk)

All seemed to be fine except the 'home' button breaks as it is linked to http://rainfordcollege.org.uk
and not http://www.rainfordcollege.org.uk 

I know its probably something obvious and simple but any help would be appreciated,

I'm unsure why this would happen if you have correctly configured your portal with the new HTTP alias settings. (Which you must have if it everything else is working!)

Perhaps it is something to do with the HouseMenu - I have not come across this problem. - There is a setting in the XML file for the HouseMenu where you can specify display Home page - try adding this in and setting it to true. - (I doubt it will make any difference however).

I would also go into the page settings for this Home Page link (Go to Pages in the admin menu and click on the edit settings link for the page) and double check that the page settings are not using a URL rather than a page or for any other strange settings that should not be there (again I doubt this is the case as the Home page displays!)

There is a way around it though if you can't find out why. Within your hosting provider are some settings called Host Headers. - For the DNN C site there are 2 host headers setup: http://dnncreative.com and http://www.dnncreative.com

They both point to the same installation and you do not have to add any additional settings to your HTTP aliases within your DNN installation.

If you contact your hosting provider and ask them to set up your host headers in this way, clicking on the Home Page link will then not be a problem.

I tried the adding the following setting in the xml but it didn't seem to make any difference

I then tried emailling my host provider about the host headers and they responded by telling me to get in touch with the person who changed my dns A zone record as they need to change the @ ip setting to my hosts.
I have looked in my dns records through the controls provided by the host and the @ address seems to be fine?

I'm wondering if it is something to do with the domain transfer as a new domain set up at the same time registered with my host works fine (www.rainfordcollegetest.com)

Also it may be to do with HouseMenu as the breadcrumb trail works fine as does the home page when a default skin is applied using solpartmenu

A few observations and a few suggestons.

A. If the DNS wasn't set properly, you wouldn't get to the correct site in the first place.  My best is that this either a host header,  portal alias or tab id/pointer to a URL issue.

B. I would check the page settings | advanced and make sure it that either "none" or "page | home" is checked -- i.e., not hard coded with a URL

C. Check the portal alias at the bottom of the Admin | site settings page and make sure that it is pointed to the correct URL.

D. If this doesn't work, let me know and I"ll get my network engineer Mark Falsone to assist you without charge (he's the guy that really knows what he's doing ;) and then we'll post the correct answer here.

Sorry, I just noted that I was a bit thrown off by a typo in the 2nd paragraph of your note.  Here's a few more observations that may help.

A.  This may be a combination of a host header and page settings issue.

B. It appears that your home page settings are set to <a href="http://rainfordtest.com"> and not to none or page | home (as I'd recommend).  This will probably get people back to the correct home page at least.  You can check this by doing a view source on the page and search for rainford

C.  You probably have a host header issue.  There are host headers in two places -- the web server configuration and in DNN.  Please ask your ISP to again confirm that both the host headers for the web server and the host headers for DNN are pointed to http://rainford.com

D. btw, that same view source and search for Rainford indicates that you have a hard coded url to the old site in the first paragraph of your home page.

Hi,

I've asked my isp to confirm the host headers are pointing in the right places.

They said, try to ping rainfordcollege.org.uk (can not find host) and www.rainfordcollege.org.uk(found our ip) and you'll see difference.

So they think I need to fix on my domain registration control panel, so it can find their ip?

When you say my home page settings are set to http://rainfordtest.com how did you find this?
When I view source it seems to be set to correctly

Is it due to the fact I already had www.rainfordtest.com running an older website and then wrote over it to create the new rainfordcollege one which I then had copied over to www.rainfordcollege.org.uk?
