I am relatively new to dnn so please excuse me if the answer to this is obvious...
Can you rename a Security Role?
 - I have set up several roles and now my company has decided on a new policy for naming security roles and I have to fall in line.  I thought it would be easy just to rename the role but cannot find a way to do it.  Only alternative I can think of is to recreate role from scratch - edit module/page settings and re-add users to new role.

Once a role is created you cannot rename it from within DotNetNuke.

However, if you have access to your DotNetNuke database, open the Roles table, and from there you can re-name the role name.

PS. you may want to create a backup of your database before doing this, I quickly tested this and it seems to work okay, but you may need to fully test before applying it to a live website

Not knowing the DNN database architecture, I just wondered if this solution is still valid, or is the security role name spread across several tables.

That approach should work fine.  But, heed the warning about making a database backup ... just in case!
