customising modules

Can anyone tell me where I should begin when it comes to customising modules. I have the source code for ventrian systems simple gallery and I want to change its functionality slightly. I am using visual studio 2008 and have managed to open the modules project file, updated it and completed a successful build. I have also installed this module into a dotnetnuke installation. What I really need to know how too debug this modules solution I cannot find a way to get it to debug at all.

Well, bear in mind that if you start customizing you'll likely make upgrading difficult. What I like to do is create a test site, open it with VS, and then install the module. Then you can code and debug away. The other approach is to set the module up as a WAP project. That can make things simpler, and also help when you need to repackage the customized module. Keep an eye on Chris Hammond's blog (chrishammond.com) as he has promised to distribute his VS templates for WAP module development in the next week or so ... WAP = Web Application Project.
