I attended the monthly meeting of the Capital (as in Washington, DC) DotNetNuke Users Group last night. We focussed on upgrading DotNetNuke, led by our guru Antonio Chagoury. Here are a couple of things that emerged from the general discussion: Upgrading from version 4.5.5 to 4.8.0 seemed to work, but the upgraded site would not run. This happened last night, and it was confirmed by one of our participants. Upgrading from 4.6.x to 4.8.0 did work. So, if you have an older site that you are trying to upgrade to 4.8.0, you might want to do it in two steps, upgrading to 4.6.2 first. Use of app_ofline.htm to take an ASP.NET site offline isn't generally known. If you put such a file (and it can contain any html that you like) in the root web directory will cause ASP.NET to serve up that page instead of your DotNetNuke site. If you rename the file (to app_offline.htmx, for example) your DotNetNuke site will work again. This is an easy way to take down your site for maintenance, upgrade, etc. And the other key comment NEVER UPGRADE A LIVE SITE!
