I exported a portal template (including content) on my local host for import to a fresh, live DNN installation at GoDaddy. I uploaded the template and resources files via FTP to the _default portal on the GoDaddy server and ran the wizard.
I received the following message:
"
HIH_June04-07.template is not a valid Portal Template File
."
I've run through this procedure before just to see how it works on another live (but not public) site. It was very easy... and it worked.
But now this. Exercising my vocabulary of obscenities didn't seem to help [laugh].
Both installations (localhost and GoDaddy) are running DNN 4.5.1.
Any and all directions/suggestions are appreciated.

I prefer throwing the laptop through the window, or getting a hammer usually helps
I've just tested this on a localhost installation of 4.5.3 and I have the same problem. I have literally exported the templates within the same installation and then tried to apply them to a new portal but have the same error as you.
This looks as though it could be a bug - I would suggest going to the main DotNetNuke.com forum and see if anyone else has come across the problem, let us know how you get on,
Thanks,
Lee Sykes

Here is a link to the DNN site regarding this issue:
http://www.dotnetnuke.com/Community...fault.aspx
John Mitchell provided a link (the 10th post on April 21, 2007; 12:57:23PM) with a fix:
http://www.snapsis.com/downloads/po...te.xsd.zip
Apparently, those in that thread who have tried it say it works. I'm about to find out. Will keep you posted.

Here's my follow-up:
The file provided by John Mitchell works! However, I found it necessary to replace the portal.template.xsd file on the source portal (on my development server) and destination portal on GoDaddy.
