I've upgrade from 4.9 to the latest version of DNN and have the following error message:
I've followed the tutorials... not sure what I've done wrong to get the error message. Can someone advise how i can fix this please? Thank you!   

Runtime Error

Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.

Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".

Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.

If you make the recommended change to web.config and set the custom error mode to "Off" you may get some more information.

Yes, I have done that... same error message.
Can I delete everything (and start again) by FTPing all the DNN 5.01 files & folders over again?
(Just got Godaddy hosting - it installed 4.9, but I want 5.01 version)

Hi,

DNN 4.9.4 supports upto .NET framework 2.0.
DNN 5.1    supports .NET framework 3.5 also.

When you upgrade your application from DNN version 4.9.* to 5.1 your web.config file will be modified with various .NET 3.5 framework supported tags.

You might be having .NET framework 3.5 on your local development machine but, not on your server.

Make sure that your server has also .NET framework 3.5 framework.

Yes, you can delete everything and start over.

If you can restore your 4.9 site, you can also export the portal, so that you can re-import it to Version 5.  Make sure that the new version is 5.1.0.

Can you confirm whether or not 5.1 will run on either framework 2.0 or 3.5 please? thanks.

Yes, either framework.  The next release will, I believe, require 3.5.
