We started with version 4.8.0 of DNN and during the setup of our site we have customised a large number of the resource files. We have made changes to the email messages, warning messages etc etc so that they are more specific to our site and have done this through >Admin>Languages>Language Editor.

We would like to now upgrade to version 4.8.01 but do not want to loose all our changes that we have made to these files.

How do we retain these changes during an upgrade?

To be on the safe side, you can make backup copies of the resx files, and then copy them back. Hopefully, between 4.8.0 and 4.8.1 there is a great likelihood that the resx files won't have been changed.

I would:

1. Make a copy of your database and web directory before upgrading.
2. Make a copy of your database and web directory after upgrading.
3. Copy resx files (only those you have changed) from the copy of the original web directory to the upgraded site. If you have trouble with any particular file, you can copy back from the copy of the upgraded site. That way, you can at least identify the troublesome files.
