I'm new to DNN, and I've been going through the Professional DotNetNuke 4. I've been reading about the difference between portal administrator privileges and host ('SuperUser') privileges.

Here's my question: In the typical DNN hosting account, does the account holder have SuperUser privileges, or only portal administrator privileges? Is this something I need to ask web hosts about? I'm assuming that a DNN account holder has SuperUser privileges and access to a typical web hosting account control panel? Is this correct? Thanks.

This is a good question. In most cases you are correct in assuming that you should have SuperUser privileges and access to a web hosting control panel.

For hosting providers that do not install DNN for you, this is definitely the case as you install DNN and configure it, so of course you have full access to everything.

When a hosting provider offers to install DNN for you automatically this is when configurations can differ. - For instance some hosting providers do not give you superuser access, but you may still have access to a web control panel. - If you are going with one of these providers then it would be wise to contact their support first to double check that you have full access to your DNN installation.

I personally prefer to install DNN myself to ensure that everything is configured correctly and that I have full access.
